Brother, you smell good - 32

Having promised Shen Yu, Cheng Mofei did indeed not follow him. He wasn't someone who broke his word.

But Shen Yu didn't say where he could go.

Cheng Mofei just stayed at the bottom of the only escalator in the mall, waiting for Shen Yu to return to school together, using the excuse that he still had some matters to attend to and told Xiao Xiong and Sun Xinghe to head back first.

Whether Shen Yu took the elevator or the escalator, this was the path he had to take to leave.

The mall was pet-friendly, and an aunt passed by with a Samoyed. She suddenly felt unwell, and seeing Cheng Mofei waiting for someone, she asked him to look after the dog for a while since she wouldn’t be leaving anytime soon.

So, Cheng Mofei sat next to the Samoyed.

The Samoyed had its triangular ears perked up, its tail wagging, and it grinned widely, looking cheerful.

Cheng Mofei glanced at the time from time to time, wondering why Shen Yu hadn't come down yet.

Soon enough, the aunt returned and took the Samoyed away.

Cheng Mofei, bored out of his mind, started plucking off the white dog hairs stuck to him, one by one.

When the last hair was removed, Shen Yu still hadn’t shown up.

Soon after, two familiar faces suddenly appeared.

Meng Feng and the same guy who had been kissed on the cheek by Ning Que earlier.

Cheng Mofei raised an eyebrow.

It was known that Meng Feng wasn’t exactly a good person, and his reputation in the circle was poor.

So why was Ning Que’s lover with him?

Fortunately, the two didn't seem to engage in any intimate gestures.

Before Cheng Mofei could think any further, he saw the elevator doors open, and Shen Yu and Ning Que walked out.

Meng Feng and the other guy saw them as well and immediately rushed over.

Cheng Mofei hesitated for a moment about whether to approach, but then he saw the other guy suddenly charge at Shen Yu like a madman.

Without a second thought, Cheng Mofei rushed forward, restraining the guy and protecting Shen Yu.

Suddenly, he felt a light tug on his arm, a reassuring strength that calmed him.

It was Shen Yu.

Shen Yu shot a cold glance at Meng Feng, who was standing on the sidelines.

Around them, many people had noticed the commotion and were casting curious glances their way.

“Let’s go somewhere else to talk.”

The eighteen-year-old Shen Yu was refined and clean, looking very obedient, yet his tone carried an undeniable authority that contrasted with his appearance.

Cheng Mofei’s sudden appearance caught Meng Feng off guard. Originally, Meng Feng had planned to leave—last time, when he had angered Cheng Mofei, his family’s business ran into problems, and he was scolded harshly, with his living allowance halved.

But now, he couldn’t find a way to leave.

Ning Que, Shen Yu, and Cheng Mofei, three pairs of eyes, were all fixed on him.

Meng Feng couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty but quickly regained his confidence.

Although he and Ning Que weren’t the same, Ning Que wasn’t much better than him.

Ning Que was bisexual, changing partners faster than changing clothes, and yet acted all high and mighty. He claimed to only have one partner at a time and looked down on people who didn’t mind multiple partners, but what was all that fake loyalty about?

If he were really so moral, could he manage to switch partners so many times in a month?

With that in mind, Meng Feng thought, what could have possibly happened between Shen Yu and him, if not something more than just a hot pot meal?

The mall was located in a small square, and with the night growing late and the cold settling in, there were fewer people outside now.

Shen Yu led the way, holding Cheng Mofei's hand, with Meng Feng and the other guy walking in the middle, and Ning Que bringing up the rear, blocking the way behind them.

They arrived at a corner where there was no one around. Shen Yu stopped, turned to the other guy, and asked, "What did Meng Feng tell you?"

The guy paused for a moment, and after being hit by the cold wind, his rationality quickly returned.

Though he instinctively still disliked Shen Yu, he pulled out his phone and showed the photos that Meng Feng had sent him.

One was a photo of Shen Yu and Ning Que talking and laughing face-to-face.

Another was of Ning Que picking up a piece of hotpot meat and handing it to Shen Yu. It was common to scoop out and serve meat in a hotpot once it’s done cooking—nothing out of the ordinary.

...

Then there was a photo of Ning Que raising an arm to protect Shen Yu. This was the only photo that seemed somewhat intimate.

So it turned out that Meng Feng had been at the same hotpot restaurant.

The restaurant had many decorative features that obstructed the view, making it hard to notice people around, especially those with ulterior motives.

Ning Que and Cheng Mofei both looked incredibly displeased.

Shen Yu, however, remained calm and unfazed as he took out his phone and showed the other guy the three-person chat group his mother had created, along with the messages about the hotpot gathering.

Shen Yu’s tone was light and carefree as he said, “I had a meal with my brother, and somehow, it turned into a love triangle.”

The guy bit his lip tightly, his ears turning completely red from embarrassment.

Seeing this, Ning Que spoke up, “We’ve been together for over two months, it’s been quite a while. I thought you understood what kind of person I am, I thought I made myself clear. The reason I broke up with you is because I just didn’t feel anything anymore. Dragging this out would only delay both of us, so it’s better to part ways now.”

Ning Que shot a cold glance at Meng Feng, hinting, “I don’t do things like juggling multiple partners or cheating.”

Meng Feng cursed Ning Que inwardly but didn’t dare show any dissatisfaction on his face. He forced an awkward smile and said, “So, it was all just a misunderstanding.”

“A misunderstanding?” Shen Yu was somewhat surprised, but it was Cheng Mofei who spoke this time, “Was the text message targeting Shen Yu also a misunderstanding?”

A flash of panic crossed Meng Feng’s eyes, and he played dumb, “What message? What are you talking about?”

Shen Yu looked just as confused.

He had never heard Cheng Mofei mention any text messages.

But deep down, Shen Yu had a faint suspicion.

The text message had been deleted on the spot by Cheng Mofei, so it couldn’t be used to confront the guy, but for people like him, there were plenty of ways to handle it.

Cheng Mofei couldn’t be bothered to waste more words on him. Just standing in front of this person made him feel disgusted.

"Believe it or not, If you continue to target Shen Yu, I’ll make sure you can’t stay in Yancheng City."

Cheng Mofei was never the typical dandy kind of spoiled rich kid.

On the contrary, he was well-mannered and a perfect example of a young man from an aristocratic family in high society. He preferred to resolve conflicts by reasoning with the other party.

But that didn’t mean he lacked the ability to back up those “those who obey me will prosper, and those who disobey me will perish” words.

Especially when it came to someone with such poor character, it was easy enough to collect evidence of their wrongdoings and guarantee they’d become well-behaved right away.

In fact, Cheng Mofei was already considering doing just that.

He didn’t want to see this person again.

Nor did he want Shen Yu to continue being targeted by this guy or for something like today’s incident to happen again.

Meng Feng, seeing the situation, started to feel a bit scared. He forced a smile and said, “It’s all just a misunderstanding. Isn’t it enough if I apologize?”

After saying that, Meng Feng turned to Shen Yu, "I'm sorry, I misunderstood. Truly, I’m sorry."

But Shen Yu simply turned away, unwilling to acknowledge him. "It's cold. Let’s go back."

Cheng Mofei instinctively took Shen Yu’s hand, and indeed, it was cold.

As they walked, Cheng Mofei said, "You can put your hand in my pocket. My coat’s thick, and the pocket’s warm."

Seeing the two of them walk off without a glance back, Ning Que thought for a moment and decided to follow. He felt it was necessary to “smooth things over.”

Though he wasn’t exactly a saint himself, he’d always disliked people like Meng Feng.

Ning Que was someone who craved love, enjoyed the excitement of new relationships, and longed for companionship, which led to a never-ending cycle of partners.

However, he hated disloyalty, deceit, and betrayal—just like how he despised his biological mother, who, despite having him, ran off with her lover while still married.

He always made sure to clean up after each relationship before starting the next.

At least, he had some sense of boundaries. He could never connect with someone like Meng Feng, a man without any limits, without moral decency.

It was clear that his brother's roommate had some background; otherwise, Meng Feng wouldn’t have been so afraid of him, behaving so submissively in his presence.

And Ning Que happened to know some of Meng Feng’s dirty secrets. Perhaps he could use that to bring him to justice right there.

A person like that, it was better to lock them up early, before they caused more harm to society.

After they had walked far enough and the two people were out of sight, Shen Yu eagerly asked, “What was that text message about?”

Cheng Mofei knew he couldn’t hide it anymore, so he obediently answered, “Actually, it’s nothing much. That night in the infirmary, I suddenly received a text message saying you were gay. It was clearly from that bastard Meng Feng trying to stir up trouble.”

Shen Yu: "..."

It seemed like his suspicions had been right.

It seemed that Cheng Mofei didn’t really believe the message, otherwise, their relationship wouldn’t have been so harmonious during this time.

Cheng Mofei continued, "We've known each other for so long. How could we let that guy, whom we’ve only met once, sow discord between us? Only someone brainless would believe that text message."

Shen Yu felt a bit moved.

Whether it was friendship or love, trust was always the most important thing.

Although, in this case, his sexual orientation had betrayed Cheng Mofei’s trust.

Cheng Mofei squeezed Shen Yu’s hand, which was tucked in his pocket, and added, “We’re both solid straight men.”

Ning Que, who had been quietly eavesdropping, blinked in confusion. "?"
