Before Shen Yu could react, another message was sent over.
I Love Shen Yu: 【Class should be over by now. Why haven’t you replied to my messages yet?】
I Love Shen Yu: 【I miss you so much.】
Shen Yu: “……”
Shen Yu couldn’t help but smile helplessly. He had originally planned to scroll to the top and see what all these 99+ messages were about, but now he had to reply first.
Shen Yu: 【Class just ended. I just left campus. I didn’t dare turn on my phone at school, I was afraid the teacher would see and confiscate it.】
As soon as the message was sent, a reply quickly came through:
I Love Shen Yu: 【Can we video call now?】
Shen Yu chuckled and took the initiative to call him.
As expected, the video call was answered within seconds.
Cheng Mofei hadn’t gone to school that afternoon or evening, using illness as an excuse to stay in bed. After Shen Yu turned off his phone for night study, Cheng Mofei had gone to take care of some things.
During this time, unable to hold back his longing for Shen Yu, Cheng Mofei had sent him numerous messages on Q.
As soon as the video call connected, Cheng Mofei glanced at the background behind Shen Yu and asked, “Where are you headed?”
Shen Yu explained, “I’m going to mail a letter to my mom first, then find a hotel to stay for the night.”
He had no desire to go back to Shen Lide’s place, just seeing them put him in a bad mood.
Luckily, he had already turned sixteen; otherwise, checking into a hotel would have been a hassle.
“Stay safe.” Cheng Mofei’s eyes were filled with worry—he wished he could crawl through the phone screen and be by Shen Yu’s side.
“Don’t worry.” Shen Yu reassured him with a smile.
At this hour, most post offices and delivery stations had already closed, but some small convenience stores that handled mail services were still open. Shen Yu successfully filled out the information, paid the postage, and sent the letter.
With Cheng Mofei keeping him company, Shen Yu checked into a hotel. Upon entering the room, he couldn't wait to rush into the bathroom and examine his sixteen-year-old self carefully in the mirror.
The boy in the mirror was thin, but his body hadn’t completely deteriorated. With proper care, he could definitely become much healthier.
"Send me the hotel address. I'll order you a late-night snack and breakfast for tomorrow morning," Cheng Mofei said through the phone.
Shen Yu smiled at the screen. "No need. I can buy it myself. The amount of food you ordered for me last time could probably last me several days."
Cheng Mofei touched his nose a little guiltily.
Shen Yu knew him too well… He really couldn’t help but go overboard when it came to feeding Shen Yu.
The weather was getting cold, and since the South didn’t have central heating, Shen Yu turned on the air conditioner for warmth. After taking a shower, he curled up in bed, feeling drowsy.
He plugged in his phone to charge and ended up falling asleep while still on a video call with Cheng Mofei.
When he woke up the next morning, the call was still connected.
Since their morning self-study sessions started around the same time—both at 7:30, they had set alarms for 6:30.
"It’s been a long time since I woke up this early." Shen Yu yawned.
"Do we really have to go through this whole school thing again…?" Cheng Mofei was also yawning nonstop. He had stayed up too late last night, secretly watching sixteen-year-old Shen Yu sleep, and almost couldn’t wake up this morning.
Shen Yu couldn’t help but chuckle. "Good thing we were reborn into our first year of high school. If it had been senior year, we probably wouldn’t even get into college."
After all, so many years had passed, he had forgotten almost all his middle and high school knowledge.
Cheng Mofei straightened up and said seriously, "I want to repeat a year and be in the same class as you."
He was currently in his second year of high school, with only a year and a half left before the college entrance exams. If he wanted to get into Yanda University, he would have to work insanely hard, leaving no time to even date Shen Yu. Repeating a year would make things much easier.
One extra year wouldn’t make much of a difference.
Shen Yu also felt that starting from the first year would be more manageable, so he asked, "How are you going to explain this to your parents?"
"I’m not telling my parents, I’ll tell my grandma instead." Cheng Mofei blinked. "I want to tell her about us going back in time and ask her to help us."
Shen Yu was stunned and asked in confusion, "Do you think she’ll believe it?"
Normally, people wouldn’t believe something like this, right?
Cheng Mofei nodded. "There’s a 70-80% chance she will."
He then explained how his grandmother had always been deeply superstitious and how, later in life, she had miraculously overcome illness just because a fortune teller told her she would live a long time.
Shen Yu suddenly thought of something, his breath hitching, his voice turning slightly hoarse. "So… all those times you kept going to fortune tellers, saying our fate lines were intertwined, was it actually because of this?"
Cheng Mofei instantly froze, guilt flickering across his face as he averted his gaze. Realizing there was no way to cover it up now, he simply admitted, "You caught me."
Shen Yu’s eyes reddened in an instant. He quickly turned on the faucet and splashed cold water on his face, using it as an excuse to hide the tears that had started falling uncontrollably.
In the late stages of his illness, the relentless pain had worn down his patience, making his temper worse. Every time Cheng Mofei brought up fortune tellers, he had responded with frustration, thinking it was nothing but nonsense.
He never expected… that Cheng Mofei had only wanted to give him faith.
A belief in surviving.
Finally, Shen Yu grabbed a dry towel and quickly wiped his face. His voice carried a trace of choked emotion as he murmured, "I'm sorry… I misunderstood you."
Cheng Mofei’s heart clenched. He hated seeing Shen Yu cry, especially when he wasn’t there to hold him.
And yet, this time, he was the one who made him cry.
Just as he was fumbling for words to comfort Shen Yu, the boy lifted his phone. His damp, glistening eyes were close to the camera, and he curved them into a soft, fleeting smile.
"Our fate line really is long," he whispered.
—
The next night, Shen Yu didn’t stay at the hotel. Instead, he went to Fang Xiang’s place and spent the night there.
Shen Lide didn’t go looking for him. Either way, Shen Yu wouldn’t actually go missing—if he didn’t show up at school the next day, the teachers would contact them first.
That night, they enjoyed a delicious late-night snack.
Sixteen-year-old boys always had endless things to talk about.
Fang Xiang pulled Shen Yu into his room with the food and whispered in his ear, "I got a love letter today. But I think dating too early isn’t a good idea, and I’m not really interested, so I turned them down."
Shen Yu pressed his lips into a smile.
Is early romance really a bad thing…?
Did what he and Cheng Mofei had count as early love?
Later, when he went to the restroom, he secretly told Cheng Mofei about it.
Cheng Mofei replied: 【I wish I could have started dating you in kindergarten.】
Shen Yu: “……”
—
On the third day, Shen Yu received a text message from his mother.
He didn’t know her phone number—only her name and address. In the letter he had written to her, he had left a phone number from a SIM card that Cheng Mofei had gotten for him.
And just as he had hoped, his mother reached out to him.
Excited yet nervous, Shen Yu gathered his courage and called her.
For now, he had no way of going to Yancheng to find her, so this was the only way he could connect with her.
—
The next day, the school administration unexpectedly contacted Shen Yu about sponsorship and a transfer.
The person funding him was Cheng Mofei’s grandmother—she had truly believed what Cheng Mofei told her.
Shen Lide had also received the news. Surprisingly, he agreed without hesitation and cooperated in completing all the necessary paperwork.
Someone else was willing to raise his son—of course, Shen Lide was happy to oblige.
Before Shen Yu left, rumors about him spread rapidly throughout the small county town.
It turned out that Shen Lide’s ex-wife had been regularly sending money and letters to their child, yet the boy had been living worse than orphans in welfare homes. The reason?
Shen Lide and his current wife had been pocketing the money and letters while continuously abusing Shen Yu.
Under immense public pressure, Shen Lide was forced to transfer 100,000 yuan into Shen Yu’s bank account, barely managing to suppress the backlash.
Before boarding his flight, Shen Yu called his mother and told her everything.
For the first time in a long while, Shen Xunyan felt a sense of relief.
This had been a carefully planned scheme between Shen Yu and his mother—a way to take revenge on Shen Lide and force him to return the money that rightfully belonged to Shen Yu.
As for the sponsorship, Shen Yu made up an excuse to brush it off, and Shen Xunyan didn’t question it. After all, everything had gone through the proper channels.
At first, Shen Xunyan wanted Shen Yu to transfer schools and live with her. However, Shen Yu firmly refused.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to live with his mother—it was just that she had already built a new life. He was afraid that his presence might disrupt it and cause her trouble.
So, they made a deal—when Shen Yu got into Yanda University in a few years, he would settle down in Yancheng, where she lived.
As the plane was about to take off, Shen Yu ended the call with his mother and sent a voice message to Cheng Mofei before switching to airplane mode.
Throughout the flight, Shen Yu was too excited to sit still. He stared out at the clouds, feeling as though he were walking on them. It felt so unreal, almost like a dream.
Finally, the plane landed. Shen Yu had no luggage, just a backpack slung over his shoulders. The first thing he did was call Cheng Mofei.
Within moments, a familiar figure dashed toward him and pulled him into a tight embrace.
Shen Yu's tears fell uncontrollably, soaking into Cheng Mofei’s shirt.
Cheng Mofei wasn’t doing much better—his chest rose and fell rapidly, overwhelmed by the joy and nervousness of this long-awaited reunion.
They had finally reunited.
—
The first thing Cheng Mofei did was take Shen Yu to the hospital to visit his grandmother. They sat with her for a long time, chatting and catching up.
During their conversation, Cheng Mofei’s grandmother started to believe more in his earlier claims. Shen Yu’s natural behavior and mannerisms were so genuine that it seemed impossible to have been faked.
Later, Shen Yu moved in with Cheng Mofei.
Although Cheng Mofei’s parents didn’t quite understand why his grandmother suddenly decided to sponsor a boy from the South, they didn’t interfere much. They probably thought it had something to do with some advice from a fortune teller or accumulating good karma.
The boy was good-looking and well-behaved, around the same age as their son, and they got along great. It was a perfect arrangement for a companion, and they grew quite fond of him.
Cheng Mofei also successfully convinced his parents to let him repeat a year and join the same class as Shen Yu. They became desk mates.
At first, Shen Yu had no idea how Cheng Mofei had managed to convince them. After all, Cheng Mofei had excellent grades, so the idea of him repeating a year seemed absurd.
But later, Shen Yu found out that Cheng Mofei had actually uncovered some unsavory details about their class teacher.
The teacher was a closeted gay man who had deceived his wife and was involved with some male students—he was utterly disgusting.
Fortunately, with the reversal of time, Cheng Mofei managed to save the teacher’s wife, who had originally attempted suicide, and the class teacher was appropriately punished for his actions.
After receiving psychological counseling, the teacher’s wife came to understand that it wasn’t worth sacrificing her life for such a vile person. Over time, she found a way to move forward with her life.
Cheng Mofei, pretending to be psychologically affected by the disgusting incident, claimed he had developed a distaste for studying. With the help of his grandmother, he convinced his parents to let him repeat a year to take a break and move into the same class as Shen Yu. They would study together.
Cheng Mofei’s parents always prioritized their child’s well-being—both physical and mental health, so they naturally agreed to Cheng Mofei repeating a year.
Everything went smoothly, except for one thing…
“I really can’t stand it anymore. How did I ever score 147 points back then?” Cheng Mofei held his test paper in hand, looking at Shen Yu sitting beside him. He no longer had the confident, strategic demeanor of the former Cheng Mofei.
“You’re not focused.” Shen Yu, also working through problems, glanced at him and smiled.
Cheng Mofei reflected for a moment.
If I ask myself honestly, it is not particularly difficult. Although I have forgotten everything, I can still solve it by patiently reviewing the knowledge points in the book.
They still have two and a half years, so there is no rush.
It is just that he has been impatient and always wants to... want to kiss Shen Yu.
Cheng Mofei's Adam's apple rolled quickly.
Premature love really affects study...
Looking at the youthful and beautiful profile of the sixteen-year-old Shen Yu, Cheng Mofei couldn't help it. He threw the test paper in his hand and decided to follow his heart. He quickly leaned over and kissed Shen Yu on the lips.
On the night of the reunion, he secretly kissed Shen Yu for a long time, and accidentally kissed Shen Yu's mouth swollen, but finally covered it up with acclimatization.
Shen Yu let him kiss him for a while before smiling and pushing him away. He pushed him back to his seat and pointed to the blank space on the test paper and said:
"If you solve a question correctly, I'll give you a kiss."
