The firewood in the stone basin was nearly burnt out, and the charcoal crackled with a snap.
Yu Bai turned his face away, his lips trembling as he bit them, his breath coming out in ragged gasps.
In just a short while, his entire body felt as if it had been pulled out of water, and most of the reason could be attributed to Huo Duo'er.
The orc's scorching tongue swept across his face, especially lingering near his lips, while his large hand turned Yu Bai's face back.
Huo Duo'er attempted to pry open his mate's lips with the same rhythm, his tongue forcing its way into the soft cavity, pushing and thrusting, creating wet sounds.
His strong, powerful body pressed down on Yu Bai, and after a while, he lifted the body in his arms, turning it sideways.
Yu Bai didn't understand, letting out faint sounds from his mouth, his ears flushed with blood.
His soft earlobes grew hot, and he couldn't stop shivering.
Huo Duo'er seemed to be doing it on purpose, slowly, but with undeniable force.
The firelight flickered, making a sound, followed by another.
"Snap—"
The wet sound that drilled into his ears made the usually cold orc's eyes almost bleed with intensity.
The muscles in his arms continuously rippled.
Yu Bai cried out in fear, the corners of his eyes wet, transparent tears falling.
Huo Duo'er licked the corners of his eyes, and because his mate was afraid, he eventually just wiped them away and let it pass.
The room was filled with a thick atmosphere, and Huo Duo'er picked up his mate, who seemed dazed and fragile.
First, he fetched warm water from the stone pot, carefully and meticulously cleaning Yu Bai.
Especially his waist, abdomen, and legs.
Yu Bai gasped for breath, feeling refreshed, his trembling gaze slowly returning.
He was still in Huo Duo'er's arms, and when he caught a glimpse of the exaggerated dark bush, he couldn't help but tremble again.
Huo Duo'er placed the cleaned Yu Bai back on the bed and went to the bathroom.
Soon, he returned, wearing shorts but still bare-chested, pulling the still dazed sub-female back into his arms.
—
The next day, the sun scorched the muddy ground, and Yu Bai groggily got up from bed.
His expression was strange, his legs pressed together, his waist and hips tense.
He took a few steps off the bed, then weakly fell back.
He buried himself in the animal fur blanket, slightly arching his buttocks as he burrowed inside, covering himself.
Just being wiped like that, why did it feel so strange, as if his limbs wouldn't obey him.
The little wolf had already gone out to eat twice, licking its paws clean, and now it jumped into the room. Seeing the small two legged figure still in bed, it ran to the foot of the bed, let out a howl, and nudged Yu Bai, who was hiding inside.
He lifted a corner of the animal fur blanket and locked eyes with the little wolf.
The wolf opened its mouth, its tongue still carrying the scent of meat from its recent meal, almost brushing Yu Bai's face.
He barely avoided it, pushing away the wolf's head, which was now larger than his palm, and glared at it weakly, hesitating, he didn’t really want to go out.
In the yard, there was the sound of chopping wood; Huo Duo'er was busy outside. Once he went out, they would have to face each other.
But... last night, Huo Duo'er had done such things to him, and he had half-heartedly gone along with it, and now...
What would happen when they met?
Yu Bai gathered his thoughts, straightened his hemp robe, and slowly walked out in his hemp shoes.
Huo Duo'er was repairing wood, using a stone knife to carve grooves along the edges, then fitting finely polished wooden strips into them to make a wooden rack.
They had brought back many things from their trip, and the rack could be used to dry items.
"You've been up early working on this?"
Seeing Huo Duo'er's attentiveness, Yu Bai's awkwardness gradually faded away.
Huo Duo'er said, "While we have time, let's make a few more..."
He paused, trying hard to recall the words he had learned from his mate, and awkwardly added, "...furniture."
Besides tables and chairs, they could also craft a set of wooden shelves and cabinets for storing items.
Once the busiest period of spring hunting was over, Huo Duo'er planned to venture into the mountains to gather more wood. He intended to lay wooden floors over the earthen ground inside the house, as Yu Bai had suggested.
The warm spring sun gently fell upon them. After hearing the orc's words, Yu Bai felt a warmth in his heart.
Apart from certain aspects where Huo Duo'er could be overwhelming, he was, for the most part, a very suitable mate for a peaceful life.
After eating, he and Huo Duo'er each occupied a corner of the yard. While Huo Duo'er worked on carpentry, Yu Bai busied himself organizing herbs and spices.
Some of the herbs were prepared for medicinal use, while the rest were planted in the vegetable garden. The spices, still wrapped in mud, were also gradually planted in the soil.
In addition to the vegetable garden, they planted melon vines and fruit along the walls. At the four corners of the yard, they planted cooling grass to repel mosquitoes and insects. The accumulated manure and decaying leaves from the outhouse were composted and used as fertilizer.
The gentle spring sun and abundant rainfall, combined with the fertile soil, allowed the planted spices and herbs to grow to knee height within just half a month.
Yu Bai looked at the lush green vegetable garden with a sense of harvest. His enthusiasm for collecting herbs and spices grew even stronger.
When Huo Duo'er had free time, he would take Yu Bai out to gather herbs in the distant mountains.
If Huo Duo'er went out hunting, Yu Bai would lead the little wolf to search the nearby foothills. A'Li sometimes came to help as well.
By the end of spring, the wind began to carry a hint of dryness, and the vegetation in the mountains turned a deep, rich green. Summer arrived in the blink of an eye.
—
During the hottest season, the summer air was dry, carrying the scent of earth mixed with grass and a faint mustiness.
By midday, the dirt paths were scorching under the blazing sun. The orcs were mostly lazy during this time, except for the males who had to go out. Most preferred not to move, hoping for the sun to lessen and a breeze to pick up before resuming their work.
Because of the intense heat, many orcs chose not to wear clothes. Some covered their private parts, while others didn't bother at all, sitting with their legs spread wide. The orc world was indeed very open.
In the main city of the tribe, a small courtyard was surrounded by green vines, with small melons hanging from them.
The vegetable vines were lush and green, full of life, bringing a refreshing coolness to the hot noon.
Orcs passing by to fetch water from the river would often stop and gaze at the courtyard, their eyes filled with envy.
At the beginning of spring, many orcs had been puzzled by Yu Bai's actions, finding them quite novel. Most had watched with a neutral attitude.
But by this summer, as they looked at the dramatically transformed courtyard, all they felt was envy.
—
"Bai—"
A rough call broke the noon's tranquility.
A tall, horned bull orc sprinted barefoot across the scorching dirt path, not bothering to complain.
The horned bull orc stood outside the courtyard gate, urgently knocking.
"Bai, are you there?"
Behind the door, the little wolf howled.
Soon, the gate opened, and a slightly taller sub-female appeared, squinting as he greeted the horned bull orc.
Yu Bai had grown a bit taller compared to the previous year. Though the change was small, it made him appear softer and more slender, though he was still noticeably shorter than the orcs.
He wore a short-sleeved shirt and shorts made of linen, his skin fair and his hair slightly disheveled. The stray strands at his temples curled slightly, and his dark eyes were misty, giving him a sleepy appearance.
The orc with bull horns was momentarily stunned, his eyes fixed on the figure before him. A faint blush rose on his dark face, though it was hard to notice due to his sun-tanned complexion.
Yu Bai had gone to the mountains at dawn to collect morning dew and medicinal herbs, returning only around noon to catch up on some sleep.
He responded to the approaching bull-horned orc, "What's the matter?"
Despite saying this, he skillfully entered the house, slung a linen bag over his shoulder, and called for the little wolf to join him as they headed out.
Most orcs who came to him sought his help for medical treatment, and Yu Bai never refused. If he could treat them, he would. Over the past three months, he had exchanged his medical services for various goods.
The bull-horned orc explained with a troubled expression as they walked, "Bai, my mother and younger siblings have fallen ill. Since yesterday, they've been suffering from diarrhea, vomiting everything they eat. Today, my mother is so weak she can only lie down and can't get up at all."
The bull-horned orc's family lived on the edge of the tribe. Over the past few months, whether the patients lived inside or outside the city walls made no difference to Yu Bai.
The little wolf trotted through the tribe's pathways, lifting its head and howling, shaking its thick, fluffy fur, drawing the attention of the orcs.
Seeing the little wolf appear, the orcs knew that Yu Bai must be nearby.
They thought to themselves: This sub-female is truly special! He dares to raise a wolf, and he’s even trained it to be so obedient. That wolf is fiercely protective of Yu Bai!
Witnessing this, some orcs in the tribe began to entertain the idea of taming wild beasts, though for now, even capturing a fierce beast was a daunting task.
—
Meanwhile, stepping on the sun-baked dirt path, Yu Bai followed the bull-horned orc to their wooden shack. Before they even got close, an indescribable smell wafted through the air.
He frowned and instructed the bull-horned orc to move his mother and siblings outside.
Upon learning that the family had suddenly fallen ill with diarrhea, Yu Bai asked questions, noting the frequency of their diarrhea and whether they showed signs of dehydration. He then observed the sick orcs' skin, eye sockets, pressed on their abdomens, and examined their feces.
The bull-horned orc nervously rubbed his horns, "How is it?"
Yu Bai replied, "It's an acute infection, likely bacterial dysentery."
The bull-horned orc's family didn't understand, but precisely because they didn't, they felt Yu Bai was incredibly skilled, even more so than the high priest.
Yu Bai didn't have enough medicinal herbs with him and planned to gather some nearby with the little wolf.
The bull-horned orc wanted to follow, but Yu Bai shook his head, "You should clean up inside and around the shack. Make sure your mother and siblings's feces are disposed of properly and away from water sources. Find a place to concentrate the waste. A dirty environment breeds bacteria easily."
After giving his instructions, Yu Bai called for the little wolf and set off to gather herbs.
The bull-horned orc stood there dazed for a moment but quickly got to work as instructed.
—
As evening approached, the sky was painted with the colors of the sunset.
Returning to his small courtyard, Yu Bai fetched water to wash his hands. The little wolf, feeling hungry, went out to hunt for food.
He picked a bundle of greens from the vegetable patch, sat on a small stool to clean them, tossing the inedible parts to the chickens and ducks, and kept the rest for stir-frying.
Hot oil sizzled in the pan, and the aroma wafted from the stove.
The night spread, and the evening breeze brought a refreshing coolness.
Yu Bai prepared the evening meal, then grabbed a set of linen shorts and a short-sleeved shirt and headed to the bathhouse.
He planned to wash off his sweat before eating.
The sound of water splashing filled the air as the courtyard gate creaked open. Under the moonlight, a tall and robust figure stepped in.
The little wolf, already back from its hunt, lay lazily on the ground, grooming its fur. It glanced at the returning two-legged giant but didn’t make a sound, only wagging its big tail in greeting.
Huo Duo’er set down the things he was carrying and walked into the kitchen, following the sound of water.
Through the hemp curtain, he caught a glimpse of a fair-skinned figure. His breath grew hot and heavy.
Without caring about the sweat drenching his chest and back, he crouched down and slipped inside, wrapping his arms around his mate in one swift motion. His palms spread wide, enveloping the softness that overflowed in his hands, unable to resist kneading.
Yu Bai was startled, a cry caught in her throat.
Huo Duo’er bent down, his breath hot against his ear.
“Bai, I missed you so much.”
He had been out hunting and they have been separated for six long days.
Huo Duo’er had been yearning for his mate, the longing was unbearable.
