| WRIAWW | Hello, New Dean! | 54
The beam of light dissipated, and Zong Le stood quietly in place.
In front of him, the on-duty doctor had collapsed to the ground in fear, his lips trembling, unable to utter a word.
In contrast, the head of the medical department, who had been somewhat prepared, also took a deep breath. No matter what, he found it hard to believe that such a powerful dean could fall so abruptly.
Zong Le didn’t pay much attention to the others on this floor. Instead, he signaled for the head of the medical department to follow him, stepping over the scattered items on the floor as he made his way to the elevator.
Inside the elevator, he made a call to the neighbors from the Ankang District waiting outside, instructing them to prepare to enter the hospital and restore order.
"Warden! You’ve really did it!"
Even through the phone, the excited screams of the weird corpse on the other end were unmistakable, filled with indescribable enthusiasm.
It was clear that after today, Zong Le would likely gain another fiercely loyal subordinate.
Only the head of the medical department stood to the side, his pupils trembling in shock.
He never expected that this newly appointed authority figure was actually the Warden!
What Warden?
Could it be the Warden of Guiyi City Prison? Recalling how the dean had vanished without Zong Le even lifting a finger, and how he seemed to have been fully aware of the dean’s downfall, the head of the medical department began to piece things together.
He had initially assumed that the new authority figure was a powerful weird being who had risen from humble origins. But now it seemed that this was someone who could command an army with a single order.
What kind of force could bring down the dean so effortlessly?
At this thought, the head of the medical department couldn’t help but shiver.
It was clear that not only was the new authority figure’s power unfathomable, but the forces backing him were also terrifyingly formidable. He must not be offended under any circumstances.
The elevator went straight to the top floor, where it was quiet.
The head of the medical department nervously made his way down the corridor, only to find the door to the former dean’s office wide open. Inside, there was no one inside, only a charred office chair.
This scene spoke volumes. At the very least, it confirmed that the dean had been utterly annihilated.
With the old master gone and a new one about to ascend, those who could pledge their loyalty now would become the trusted aides of the future.
Seeing this, the head of the medical department wasted no time. He rushed into the office and, with practiced ease, crawled under the desk to press a well-hidden button. Instantly, a secret compartment on the side of the desk, which countless survivors had failed to discover, slowly slid open, revealing a brocade box inside.
The head of the medical department picked up the box and respectfully presented it to Zong Le.
"Sir, the medical department pledges its unwavering loyalty to you as the new dean of Taikang Yongle Hospital!"
On the box was the familiar emblem of an equal-armed cross.
Zong Le opened it to find a red official seal inside, bearing the inscription of Taikang Yongle Hospital.
The head of the medical department continued to explain enthusiastically, "This is the official seal of the Taikang Yongle Group. According to the group’s rules, one must obtain this seal to legitimately take over any of its enterprises. The seal serves as proof of rightful succession. If someone attempts to forcibly take the position without the seal, the Taikang Yongle headquarters will immediately send people to settle the matter."
"You might not be aware..."
Speaking of this, he nervously trembled: "Those guards from headquarters are terrifying. I heard that a group from another cleaning company under their umbrella was found with nothing left but a complete human skin."
"......"
This regulation inevitably brings to mind some ancient drama plots where people used the imperial seal to rebel.
Although there were too many complaints, Zong Le still took it in hand.
After finishing all this, he asked, "Where is the headquarters of Taikang Yongle Group?"
"No one knows the location of the headquarters," the department head shook his head. "But I heard it might be at the border between the urban area and the northern district of Guiyi City, where Taikang Yongle Group's largest enterprise—Taikang Yongle Biomedicine Company is located. Every time I passed by, I saw guards armed with guns guarding the place."
"If the headquarters isn't there, why would they deploy so many elite guards? Our hospital can't even get a single elite guard. But judging from the group's financial reports, our hospital and those entertainment companies, insurance companies, are not in the same level in competition. The hospital is almost always at the bottom. We can only secure a seat on the board by supplying some organ and blood sources for money."
The department head kept talking like pouring beans, providing Zong Le with a lot of new information.
Halfway through, he also remembered that the old dean had a private treasury. Sure enough, that upright safe was placed on the bookshelf behind the dean's office, but unfortunately, the department head didn't know the password.
"Sir, the old dean used various methods to amass wealth. Last year, he even had me help him forge account books to deceive Taikang Yongle Group's inspections. There's at least an eight-figure private asset here."
Hearing about the money, Zong Le's eyes lit up: "Step aside, let me handle this."
The department head complied but still cautioned, "Sir, be careful. This safe is collectively issued by the Taikang Yongle Group. If the password is entered incorrectly three times, it will activate an electric shock system, instantly connecting to hundreds of volts of high voltage..."
Before he could finish, he saw the black-haired youth effortlessly remove the entire safe door with his bare hands. The department head's words got stuck in his throat, and he slowly swallowed.
"There is indeed something here," Zong Le didn't notice the department head's expression, reaching in to take out a transparent file bag.
Inside, there were deposit slips from underground banks, certificates for a small amount of gold and jewelry stored in private banks, and a bank card. Just as the section chief said, there was an eight-figure deposit, showing how the old dean had exploited these resources.
"Um, sir," after finishing, the department head saw the new dean's calm expression and decided to probe further: "When do you plan to hold the formal succession ceremony? At least let the hospital staff know there's been a change in dean."
"No rush, but you can call all the department directors to the dean's office now. I have something to discuss with them."
Hearing this, the department head immediately contacted all departments.
"And after you take over, what new rules do you plan to implement? Forgive my bluntness, but the previous dean was fond of playing power games. His position was highly centralized, and no department dared to act out of line."
Otherwise, there wouldn’t have been a need to establish a department like the Medical department. Normally, Taikang Yongle Hospital should have a vice president, but the former dean chose not to create this position, instead keeping all the power firmly in his own hands.
"Of course, there is," Zong Le had long thought about this issue.
"First, we must replace Taikang Yongle Hospital's blood and organ selling services, cutting off the chain of corpse trading in Guiyi City at its root. Illegal organ transplants and black-market surgeries must be strictly prohibited, and all unreasonable systems that exploit living people for profit must be abolished. Doctors and nurses must treat patients with kindness, and not abuse patients, especially in the psychiatric department, is strictly forbidden. Any form of punishments within departments is prohibited, and a direct patient complaint channel must be established. The billing for buying and selling drugs must be transparent and open... In short, we must do our utmost to create a harmonious, caring, and fair hospital that does not overcharge random fees. We must strive to ensure that every resident of Guiyi City can afford medical treatment and be hospitalized."
As the department head listened, his expression shifted from stunned to incredulous, and finally to fear and panic.
He had initially assumed that the new dean would be the same as the old one—someone who would stop at nothing to amass wealth. To his surprise, the new dean not only dismantled the lucrative channels the former dean had painstakingly established but also introduced so many new regulations.
This was far beyond the typical "three fires" of a new official taking office!
Creating a harmonious and caring Taikang Yongle Hospital? It sounded more like creating hell!
Is there no one in Guiyi City who can oppose him?
How could such a dangerous individual become both the warden and the dean?!
At this moment, the department head truly understood the feelings of the residents of Ankang District.
"But... what if the patients can’t afford treatment?"
"Let them take out loans first. After they recover, they can work to repay the debt. No matter what, life must come first."
"But..." Thinking of Zong Le’s ruthless methods, the department head’s face turned red, but he couldn’t muster a single word of objection. Finally, he stammered, "If we stop the organ and blood trade, the hospital’s revenue will likely plummet..."
"So be it. Besides, do you think that this money is barely enough to cover your crimes?"
Zong Le casually tossed the file folder without looking back, yet it landed perfectly in the department head’s hands as if he had eyes on the back of his head.
Although the former dean had indeed amassed a considerable fortune, Zong Le had no interest in such blood-stained and soul-tainted money. It was better to leave it in Taikang Yongle Hospital to balance the accounts.
Moreover, the Ankang Prison project had already cost Zong Le a significant amount of money. While he had taken over the management of Taikang Yongle Hospital, it was, after all, a self-sustaining enterprise. He only intended to keep it running and had no plans for further investment.
"Alright, alright," the department head, who had mustered the courage to resist the oppressive force, was quickly subdued and dared not say another word. He could only lament inwardly that the former dean’s hard-earned seat on the board of directors would likely be lost again.
Just then, the directors of various departments arrived.
Seeing the chaos in the dean’s office and the official seal in Zong Le’s hand, these NPCs exchanged uneasy glances. However, being adept at reading the room, they quickly reached a consensus amidst the silence and murmurs. They lined up in the corridor, bowed in unison, and shouted, "Welcome, new dean!"
Among them, the expressions of Director Yang from the morgue, Director Dong from the operating room, and Director Deng from the psychiatric department had ugly expressions.
The first two were afraid of retaliation, while the latter was filled with regret. If only he had known that Zong Le would become the new hospital dean, he would have flattered him more during his hospitalization.
Seeing that almost everyone had arrived, Zong Le clapped his hands and announced something.
"From now on, I will take over Taikang Yongle Hospital. However, I won't be here often, so the head of the medical department will act as the dean. I hope you all will abide by the rules and regulations I set."
The head of the medical department, who was named, was stunned, then overjoyed.
However, his joy didn't last long as he saw Zong Le casually snap a steel bar in his hand.
"Of course, if you think that just because I'm not here often and pretend to comply while secretly defying the rules, you are gravely mistaken. If I catch any violations, the consequences won't be a simple punishment. My prison will be more than happy to accommodate you."
Following behind, Number Two secretly pushed Number Five's wheelchair, Number Five whispered, "See, I told you and you didn't believe me when I said that when the boss returned to the hospital, he was definitely going to make a move on the dean."
Number Two looked terrified, "I believe it, I believe it now."
