The system fell silent for a moment before responding calmly: 【No, host, I’m not hiding anything from you.】

“Then why do you keep hinting at me to get close to Qiao Sheng?”

Qi Chao didn’t follow the system’s lead and directly pointed out what he found strange.

The system, trembling in the sea of consciousness, regretted urging the host to get to know the protagonist so hastily. 

Now it had to deal with this situation and couldn’t reveal the existence of the confidentiality agreement. It said solemnly: 【Because the host’s goal is to become a puppet master, and if there are outstanding puppet masters around you, you can learn from each other.】

This sounded reasonable, but Qi Chao felt something was off. He believed the system's emphasis had always been on Qiao Sheng, not just any excellent puppet master.

Qi Chao had no objections. Originally, he had only asked casually, but the system’s reaction made it seem like it was hiding something. He buried his suspicions deep in his mind, maintaining a carefree demeanor on the surface.

If the system knew that leaving would make Qi Chao more convinced of its guilt, it might really start crying.

The room fell silent again. The medicinal liquid seeped into the wound, causing a slight tingling sensation. Qi Chao didn't think too much about it and closed his eyes, pretending to rest.

The next day, Qi Chao woke up very early. Perhaps due to the medicinal liquid, his body felt much better than before, so he decided to go downstairs to cook.

He had expected to be the first one awake, but when he came down to the living room, he saw Moss and Agu already sitting on the sofa.

One puppet was brushing a fabric doll’s hair, while the other was brushing its own hair. It seemed they had been awake for a long time.

Noticing the noise from the stairs, both puppets looked over.

Moss, who was always quiet, gave Qi Chao a nod as a greeting.

Agu, on the other hand, looked at Qi Chao with excitement, as if he had come across something interesting. He waved the comb in his hand and cheerfully said, “Uncle, you’re up!”

Qi Chao greeted them both and then smiled, saying, “You two woke up so early.”

“Yes,” Agu replied with a smile, his green eyes curving slightly, revealing his white teeth. “I wake up very early every day. Big Brother likes me a lot, and when he saw me up so early, he followed me to the living room so I wouldn’t be lonely.”

Moss, hearing this, glanced at Agu with his remaining black eye. If it weren't for the need to keep an eye on Agu and prevent him from causing trouble, he wouldn’t have come downstairs so early.

Qi Chao didn’t know the reason behind it and, upon hearing this, he had no doubts, believing that things were just as Agu had said. He smiled and said, “Yes, Moss has always been a gentle big brother.”

After saying this, Qi Chao noticed that both puppets across from him were staring at him, as if he had said something strange. He reviewed his words and confirmed he hadn’t said anything wrong. He tentatively asked, “Did I say something wrong?”

Moss’s bandaged mouth tightened, but he remained silent. Instead, Agu, with a smile, said, “No, Uncle, you didn’t say anything wrong.”

Qi Chao smiled in response and was about to say something when he noticed Agu’s hair length.

Originally, Agu’s hair should have reached his waist, but now it seemed shorter by a segment. Qi Chao, puzzled, asked about it.

Moss’s back tensed, and his gaze was fixed on Agu, as if afraid he would say something he shouldn’t. 

Agu, noticing Moss’s stare, seemed even more mischievous.

Revealing the truth to Qi Chao would be quite amusing.

Thinking this, Agu, with a smile, said, “It’s just that Agu thought his hair was too long, so I cut it.”

He couldn’t reveal this matter.

Because Father would definitely be angry.

Agu felt a bit disappointed, thinking he was really a considerate child who was friendly to his father and elder brother.

Qi Chao looked at Agu’s smiling face, believing him without any doubt. After chatting for a while, he turned and went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

With a new child joining, Qi Chao needed to prepare four high-grade energy stones. While waiting for the porridge to cook, he kept his head down, carving patterns on the energy stones.

When Agu sneaked into the kitchen, Qi Chao had already finished carving three of the energy stones. It was Agu’s first time seeing someone so bored that they would add these decorative patterns to the puppets’ energy stones.

This man is really interesting, Agu thought with a smile.

After Qi Chao finished carving all the energy stones, he noticed the two children standing nearby and said with a smile, “Once the porridge is ready, we can start eating.”

“Sure.”

Agu’s green eyes curved into a sly smile, hinting at some mischievous idea he might be plotting.

Seeing his expression, Moss tightened his grip on the stuffed doll in his arms. His dark eyes were deep and intense; if he discovered that Agu was planning anything troublesome, he would definitely take action.

“Uncle, can I take a look at the Double Mirrors’ hearts?” Agu, noticing Moss’s warning gaze, was undeterred. He smiled and leaned closer to Qi Chao. “I’m quite curious.”

Agu had specifically sought out Qi Chao while his father was away for this very purpose. He was very interested in those two malformed puppet hearts. 

Despite the annoying spy nearby, Agu was willing to tolerate anything to see the puppet hearts.

“The Double Mirrors’ hearts?”

Qi Chao remembered that Agu had wanted to see the puppet hearts yesterday but had been turned down by Shen Yuxi. 

Once the puppet hearts lost their energy fluctuations, they were just ordinary crystal stones.

Qi Chao didn’t stop Agu from looking. After turning off the stove, he led the two children upstairs.

 Agu followed eagerly behind, humming a tune and occasionally turning around to flash a cheeky smile at the menacing gaze behind him. He seemed quite ready to cause trouble.

"This is the heart of the Double Mirrors."

As Qi Chao entered the room and opened the box, he glanced at the two dimly glowing red crystals inside. Although he felt a bit downhearted, his expression remained nonchalant as he forced a relaxed smile. "Just take a quick look, I’ll put them away later."

"Okay."

Agu responded crisply, his gaze scanning the crystals before a look of realization crossed his face. As expected.

The lifespan of deformed puppets is short. When their life nears its end, their bodies collapse due to their inability to sustain energy flow, and their hearts show cracks. 

But neither of these hearts had cracks. Their color was dark and dull, as if all the energy inside had been drained.

His father must have noticed this too.

Agu pondered for a moment, then looked up at Qi Chao with a smile and said, "Agu has finished looking. Uncle can close the box now." His expression was like a curious child whose curiosity had been satisfied.

Qi Chao nodded. He looked down at the hearts, as if thinking of something, his lips twitching slightly. He closed the box and looked up again, noticing that both children were giving him strange looks.

"What’s wrong?"

Qi Chao felt a bit puzzled.

"Nothing," Agu said with a smile. Moss glanced at Agu, hesitated for a moment, then also nodded slightly.

Qi Chao found the attitudes of the two children a bit odd but didn’t dwell on it. He led them out of the study.

Moss watched Qi Chao's back as he entered the kitchen, then turned to Agu with a somewhat hoarse voice, "Did you see that?"

Just as Qi Chao was about to close the box, green mental energy floated up from him and slowly merged into the dim red crystals.

This scene was indeed strange. Setting aside why Qi Chao's mental energy could occasionally float out, what puzzled them the most was that different puppet masters had different mental energies, and it was impossible for two puppet masters to jointly awaken the same mother stone.

In short, mental energies could not blend.

This was also why, after Lan Luo was injured, Qi Chao sought out the doctor to repair the core stone rather than doing it himself.

Even though these two core stones no longer had energy fluctuations, it didn’t mean other puppet masters could pour their mental energy into them. 

Yet, the fact was that the two mother stones had accepted Qi Chao’s mental energy.

Agu found it increasingly amusing. How could there be such an interesting human?

If his mental energy could merge into the Double Mirrors' core stones, did that mean he could repair puppets without worrying about other puppet master' mental energies? 

That was fascinating.

Agu was tempted to catch a puppet from the trial ground to let Qi Chao try it out.

Moss noticed the interest in Agu's eyes but ignored it, turning towards the stairs to the second floor.

"Are you going to tell Father?"

Agu pouted. It was boring to have a secret and then tell his father.

Moss turned his head, his dark eyes fixed on the uninterested Agu. After a few seconds, he said nothing and continued upstairs.

He had to tell his father.

Moss thought that Qi Chao’s ability was very important.
