How long has Tang Xu slept?
After last time when Wei Dong gave those two brothers a good beating, they’ve at least kept their distance these past few days.
Tang Xu muttered, holding his hand and walking slowly, while listening to the Xiao Bao babbling in his arms.
Er Bao ran ahead, stopped suddenly after running quite a distance, then turned back and ran towards them again, kicking up dust all the way.
Wei Dong, holding the basket, watched him run around and reminded them to run slowly.
The three kids, dressed in red cotton jackets, made their little faces look even fairer and plumper. They were growing up well, and anyone who saw them couldn’t help but take a second glance, then whispered to the person beside them.
"These three kids from Wei Dong’s family are really well-grown. They look just like little immortals!"
"Their father is good-looking too. I think Xu Ge’er hasn’t changed at all over the years. When he married Wei Dong, he looked the same as he does now, even after having three kids. How come he hasn’t changed at all?"
"Isn't that right? Look at his figure, so slim, he doesn’t look like someone who’s had kids at all."
"He’s really handsome too. I remember when he was selling skewers at the entrance, I was stunned when I saw him."
"You little rascal! I knew you had ulterior motives when you bought skewers every day!"
The voices behind them faded away, and Tang Xu couldn’t help but twitch his mouth.
He had overheard the conversation, but as they kept talking louder, it became more and more awkward for him.
Although Xiao Bao had heard some of it, he didn’t understand. He hopped forward on his tiptoes, swinging the hand that Tang Xu was holding. "Dad~ I want to eat cake~"
He clung to his dad, pouting and looking up with wide eyes full of expectation.
These past few days, they’ve had sticky rice dumplings to eat, and Tang Xu made sugar cakes.
But the sugar cakes are easy to make—after steaming and kneading the glutinous rice flour, you tear it into small pieces and fry them. They come out crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Since sugar is added during the mixing, they taste sweet and delicious.
Every time Xiao Bao eats them, he can’t stop and always ends up eating several pieces in a row.
Tang Xu is worried that eating too many might upset his stomach, so he doesn’t make them all the time.
Now, with his little son clinging to his leg, watching him act all soft and spoiled, Tang Xu couldn’t help but chuckle. He gently pinched his soft little face with his fingers. "You want some to eat? Do your brothers want some too?"
Xiao Bao quickly nodded eagerly. Since his older brothers were not picky and would eat anything, if he wanted to eat something, then of course, his two brothers would want some too!
Thinking this, he nodded even more vigorously. "I want to eat it! Dad, make some! I really want to eat it~"
Tang Xu found him so adorable that he couldn’t bear to refuse. He nodded and said, "Alright, when we get home, Dad will make it for you. But we’re going to your aunt’s house in a bit. You know what to do, right?"
Xiao Bao immediately straightened up, clasped his hands in front of his chest, and shook his little fists, "Happy New Year~ Good health~ Happy~~~"
"Ha!" Tang Xu burst into laughter, bending down to pick him up and nuzzle his face. "Who taught you that?"
"Brother," Xiao Bao wrapped one arm around his brother's neck and raised the other hand to point far ahead, towards Da Bao running off in the distance. "Brother, sweet, take."
When he said "sweet," he patted his own mouth, meaning "sweet-talking."
When he said "take," he rubbed his little hands together, tilting his head to look at his dad. "Take red envelope."
Tang Xu couldn't stop laughing. What Xiao Bao meant was that if he sweet-talked, he’d get a red envelope.
He couldn’t help but admire his clever son.
"Just remember this yourself, don’t tell anyone else," he reminded with a smile, needing to give the warning.
Xiao Bao's long, curled lashes fluttered, his big, watery eyes staring at Tang Xu for a while, then he nodded with an "Mm-mm," before repeating, "Not tell, Happy~~~"
Tang Xu couldn’t stop laughing at the silly look on his son’s face. He quickly took a few steps to catch up with Wei Dong, holding their son in his arms, and asked with a smile, "Do you know what your little son just did?"
Wei Dong heard the laughter from his husband and son behind him. Though he didn’t catch the specifics, when he heard the question, he raised an eyebrow.
Holding the basket in his hand, he bent down, rubbed his face against Xiao Bao’s, then kissed Tang Xu on the cheek.
After that, he stood up straight and asked, "What did he do?"
Tang Xu blushed, while Xiao Bao covered his eyes and muttered to himself.
"What are you mumbling about?" Tang Xu asked, looking down at his little son in confusion.
Xiao Bao grinned, lowered his hands from his eyes, and then touched the spot where Wei Dong had kissed on Tang Xu’s cheek. "Dad, no look!"
Tang Xu’s eyelids twitched, and he shot a glare at Wei Dong.
That guy never cares if there are elders or younger ones around the house, he always sneaks a kiss from him now and then.
See? Now they’ve been caught!
Wei Dong shrugged his shoulders. What’s the problem with kissing his husband?
Exactly, so if it’s time for a kiss, then a kiss is what he’ll give.
"What happened?" As they approached the gate of the Wu family’s courtyard, Wei Dong asked again.
Tang Xu responded with an "Oh," then smiled and repeated what Xiao Bao had said earlier. He tilted his head toward his two sons who were already standing by the gate and said, "Your son taught him well, he even reminded his younger brother not to spill the beans."
Wei Dong smirked and chuckled lightly. "That's good, Dao Bao definitely taught Xiao Bao."
"How do you know it was Da Bao who taught him?" Tang Xu was confused.
"With Er Bao's mouth... even if he promises, he might not be able to keep a secret," Wei Dong said with a light snort, expressing his helplessness towards their second son’s impulsiveness.
Tang Xu immediately thought of how Er Bao always got overly excited and acted recklessly, he felt that it was not his son's fault.
He couldn’t understand, though. If there are multiple children in the family, aren’t the older ones usually the clever ones, and the younger ones the silly ones?
Why is it that in his family, the oldest is clever but the second one is so naïve?
He grumbled in his heart, but on the surface, he couldn’t help but smile. After all, looking at it, their second son looked just like his father.
Perhaps when Wei Dong was younger, he was also this silly, clumsy type?
Seeing Tang Xu stifling a smile, Wei Dong narrowed his eyes slightly, but didn’t say anything. He simply pushed the door open and walked inside.
When they had come earlier to deliver New Year’s gifts, they had already discussed that Wei Zhonghong would come over to visit on the first day of the new year.
Now, Wei Zhonghong was busy in the kitchen, and her two troublesome daughters-in-law were also inside.
In the past, if it was the old second daughter-in-law, the older one would definitely be frowning, since she was the lazy one who didn’t do much work. She would always complain about doing extra chores.
But today, she had already woken up early and was busy in the kitchen, full of festive cheer.
Wei Zhonghong glanced at Liu Shi, whose smile was so creepy it gave her goosebumps, and frowned as she asked, "What are you smiling about?"
Liu Shi, who was peeling a green radish, grinned and said, "I’m just happy, mother!"
Before Wei Zhonghong could ask her what she was so happy about, they suddenly heard Wei Dong calling out from the courtyard, "Auntie!"
She quickly put down what she was doing, took off her apron, and walked out with a bright smile, replying, "Coming, coming! Finally, you’re here!"
