At the entrance, up ahead, was a deer, and it was a male deer.
The antlers of the male deer were very long and particularly sharp. Tang Xu looked up and down, but aside from Wei Dong’s change of clothes, he couldn't see anything else.
His gaze shifted again to look at the deer.
The very tip of the antlers was unusually dark.
Tang Xu’s heart skipped a beat. He quickly jogged over and grabbed his husband’s arm.
Wei Dong staggered as he was pulled so forcefully, then turned to smile at him, saying, “What’s wrong?”
Tang Xu, however, didn’t have a smile on his face. He opened his mouth, glanced at the few people nearby, but didn’t manage to ask the worried question.
Tang Yang excitedly walked around the male deer a few times, rubbing his hands and looking at Wei Dong, speaking in an exaggerated tone, “Brother-in-law, you’re amazing! This deer is huge!”
“There are also a few mountain chickens in the basket, I—”
Before he could finish, Tang Xu cut him off, “Ah Yang, go call Ah Yao over and have him help take these down first. I’ll take your brother-in-law to wash up first.”
After saying that, he pulled Wei Dong toward the front room.
“I’m fine, really.” As soon as they entered the room, Wei Dong immediately spoke up.
Tang Xu flicked his hand, turned around to look at him, and asked with a serious expression, "Do you think I'm an idiot? The deer’s antlers are covered in blood! Where did you get hurt?"
Wei Dong met his gaze for a moment, seeing the full worry in his eyes. He sighed lightly and raised his hand to unbutton his thin coat. "It was scratched, but it's not serious."
He took off his clothes, revealing his muscular chest. The firm muscles of his waist and abdomen were wrapped in cloth, with visible bloodstains on top.
Tang Xu took a deep breath, trembling slightly as he went over to help unwrap the cloth. A wound, longer than his palm, crossed his abdominal muscles. The wound was slightly red but wasn’t actively bleeding.
He bit his lip, silent, and turned to go to the cabinet to fetch the first aid kit.
Wei Dong didn’t speak when he saw Tang Xu’s silence, but he cooperated by sitting on the bed and leaning back, allowing Tang Xu to re-treat the wound.
Tang Xu took out a few small bottles from the first aid kit and pulled out several pieces of soft cotton.
One of the bottles contained the "first liquor" he had specifically saved from when he distilled the white wine. The head liquor had a high alcohol content and was good for sterilization.
If it weren’t for the slight trembling of his muscles, Tang Xu might have thought his husband wasn’t in pain.
He lifted his eyelids to glance at Wei Dong, who had a calm expression, it was quite convincing.
Tang Xu was furious, he tried to hold it in for as long as he could. But in the end, he couldn’t hold back and raised his hand to slap him hard on the chest.
Slap!
Wei Dong: "......"
Tang Xu angrily shouted, "What did you promise me! You said you'd be careful, and this is how careful you are! If the wound had been any deeper, your intestines would have spilled out!"
After shouting, he wiped his eyes. "What if you’d been stabbed through? What, would I have had to climb a mountain to collect your body?!"
His words were harsh, but Tang Xu didn’t regret them. Tears were falling down his face, big droplets rolling down his cheeks. Wei Dong froze for a moment before completely panicking.
"I was wrong, I was wrong. I’ll be more careful next time," Wei Dong quickly pulled him into his arms, but Tang Xu pushed him away.
"Stay away from me, don’t rub blood all over me!" Tang Xu sniffled, then turned to grab a small bottle with wound powder.
His tears kept falling uncontrollably, but his hands didn’t slow down as he poured almost an entire bottle of the powder onto the wound, before finally stopping.
He wiped away the tears from the tip of his nose, then angrily wrapped a fresh cloth around Wei Dong’s injury. After that, he stood up and walked away.
How could Wei Dong dare to let him go out like this? If he couldn't coax him well, he might not be in a good mood for a long time in the future.
"Ah Xu, don’t ignore me."
Tang Xu kept his face stern, lowering his head, not looking at him.
Wei Dong reached out to cup his face. His hands were large, making Tang Xu’s head appear particularly small—his face probably wasn’t even as big as his palm.
Tang Xu, forced to lift his head, had red eyes, though he wasn’t crying anymore.
He stared at Wei Dong, not speaking.
Wei Dong leaned in to kiss him, apologizing again.
"Tell me, what can I do to make you forgive me?"
"How about you promise not to go hunting anymore?" Tang Xu asked, lowering his eyelids.
Wei Dong: "......"
Tang Xu gave him a hard glare and kicked him, "I knew it, you’re just trying to coax me!"
Wei Dong helplessly responded, "One must not forget their roots."
"What?" Tang Xu furrowed his brows.
Wei Dong said, "I’ve been hunting in the mountains with my father since I was a child, and I’ve been injured many times, both big and small. This injury really isn’t serious."
Tang Xu tilted his head back to pull away from his hands, then said, "But why don’t you think about me, or the children? What if one day you run into a bear on the mountain? Do you know I couldn’t sleep a wink last night because I was so worried? I never used to feel like this when you went out. Did you get this injury yesterday?"
Wei Dong raised an eyebrow in surprise, then laughed lightly, leaning in to kiss his angry brows, "See? I told you, husband and wife are one. Look, I got injured and you can feel it."
"I'm being serious with you!" Tang Xu was so angry that he was breathing harder. "I know you're good at hunting, but there are always times like these when you're not paying attention. Otherwise, how did you get hurt this time?"
Wei Dong thought back to the situation.
Because the weather had turned cold, the animal herds had moved deeper into the mountains.
He had been tracking the herd for two days. Eventually, he found a group of deer.
It was a large group, with many male and female deer, as well as several young ones.
Wei Dong had followed the deer herd but hadn’t acted recklessly. He waited until the male deer separated from the herd to look for food, then followed them.
Originally, there was only one male deer. Even though it was strong and had a pair of large antlers, hunting it wouldn’t have been a difficult task for Wei Dong.
The problem was that as soon as he took down that male deer, another male deer charged from behind.
If he hadn’t dodged quickly, he might have been pierced by the antlers and had a few bloody holes.
His bow and arrows had fallen to the ground while he was evading the charging deer, so Wei Dong had no choice but to use his hands to subdue it.
Fortunately, he was strong, and the second male deer was killed by him when he snapped its neck.
Wei Dong scratched his head and casually explained the situation, but just that was enough to make Tang Xu nervous. After he finished speaking, Tang Xu didn’t respond.
"It’s not that I wasn’t paying attention. Judging by its behavior, that deer was probably familiar with the first one," Wei Dong said, winking seriously at Tang Xu.
Tang Xu: "......"
Wei Dong observed Tang Xu’s expression, then added, "I promise I won’t go up the mountain alone in the future. How does that sound?"
"What's this? Are you going to bring someone with you to suffer like this?" Tang Xu glared at him.
Wei Dong rubbed his face and thought seriously for a moment before saying, "I'll bring Er Bao. He will inherit the family business. It’ll be good."
Tang Xu immediately exploded in anger.
"Wei Dong! You dare!"
Wei Dong laughed, rubbing his arm. "I was just joking, I was wrong. He's still so little, how could I take him to hunt in the deep mountains?"
But Tang Xu didn’t believe what he was saying at all.
He had already taken him to the mountains to catch rabbits and wild chickens.
Wasn’t it just a matter of time before he took him to hunt even bigger animals?
