Brother, you smell good - 61

Cheng Mofei scrambled in a panic, quickly putting down his phone and sitting up straight to keep his flushed face out of the camera. He hurriedly answered the call.

Shen Yu's face instantly appeared on the screen.

"Where are you?" Shen Yu immediately noticed something was off.

He rarely made video calls since a regular phone call was usually enough to solve most problems.

But this time, he called via video because he wanted to see Cheng Mofei’s expression, to determine whether he had discovered anything on his phone.

Cheng Mofei wasn’t in the frame, which was odd. Plus, the bell for the end of class had just rung.

He should have been on his way back, so why was he already in the dorm?

The ambiguous sounds from the video still played through his headphones, blending with Shen Yu’s voice from the phone.

Cheng Mofei swallowed hard, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he hastily slammed the space bar, pausing the video.

At the same time, he nervously responded, "I suddenly remembered I had an urgent work matter to deal with, so I skipped class to come back and handle it on my computer."

To make his explanation more convincing, he swiftly switched back to his desktop and created a new Word document at random. Without thinking, he started typing furiously, making the keyboard clatter loudly.

Shen Yu responded with a doubtful "Oh."

Cheng Mofei felt extremely guilty, his mind racing. He quickly said, "Can you bring me some oden from the school gate? I suddenly really want some. I'm not picky, but I like fish balls and kelp knots. Make sure to buy extra, I’m afraid I won’t have enough."

"Okay." Shen Yu didn’t refuse.

"My payment password is just my birthday. You can pay directly," Cheng Mofei added.

A soft chuckle came from the other end of the call. Shen Yu said, "Aren’t you afraid I’ll drain your account?"

"Go ahead." Cheng Mofei thought to himself, if Shen Yu really spent it all, that would be perfect. Then he could use himself as compensation, and he'd actually be the one profiting.

After the video call ended, Cheng Mofei let out a deep sigh of relief.

On his computer screen, the document he had randomly typed was filled almost entirely with Shen Yu’s name.

[Shen Yu, Shen Yu, Shen Yu, Shen Yu, Shen Yu, little hamster, Shen Yu, Shen Yu, Shen Yu…]

It was like he was completely obsessed.

Cheng Mofei hastily pressed Ctrl+A, selecting everything, and erased all traces of his distracted thoughts.

He had temporarily sent Shen Yu away, but his two dormmates would be back soon. In a rush, Cheng Mofei shut down his computer, pulled open the curtains, and quickly restored the dormitory to its original state.

Then, without hesitation, he strode straight into the bathroom, turned on the faucet, and let the cool water help him calm down.

Not long after, the voices of Xiao Xiong and Sun Xinghe echoed from outside, they had returned.

Seeing the bathroom door closed with the light on, they called out to him.

Cheng Mofei gave a half-hearted response, staring at his reflection in the mirror, his heart pounding.

To be honest, ever since leaving the classroom, he had felt like he was walking on clouds, as if everything was swaying in an unsettling, unreal way.

At first, all he wanted was to stop Shen Yu from getting together with that person.

So how did it suddenly turn into him wanting to be with Shen Yu?

The key was that he had adapted to this realization so effortlessly—within just one class period, he had completely accepted it.

How long had he… been having these kinds of thoughts about Shen Yu?

It seemed like ever since that day in the infirmary, he had constantly worried about Shen Yu being courted—not just by other guys, but by girls too.

He always felt that once Shen Yu got into a relationship, he wouldn’t have time to be as close to him as they were now.

But what kind of brother had such a strong sense of possessiveness?

It wasn’t like he minded Shen Yu making other friends, this wasn’t just about wanting to monopolize a friendship.

The forum post that had been deleted—the one shipping him and Shen Yu had analyzed things way too accurately. If that post still existed, he’d definitely go back and read it from beginning to end.

No wonder that person had been so hostile toward him. It turns out, they had sensed his intentions toward Shen Yu all along. This wasn’t some baseless accusation—it was real.

But…

Cheng Mofei raised a hand and wiped the water droplets off his face.

He didn’t feel guilty or ashamed toward that person at all. Shen Yu was single, anyone had the right to pursue him.

That guy had been relying on Shen Yu’s feelings, refusing to make a move and waiting for Shen Yu to chase him instead.

Well, he shouldn’t be surprised if Cheng Mofei swooped in and stole the opportunity.

But at this thought, Cheng Mofei started to deflate a little.

How was he supposed to pursue Shen Yu?

What if Shen Yu only saw him as a good brother and wasn’t willing to take things further?

Oh, right, he wasn’t even Shen Yu’s type.

Shen Yu liked polite, reliable, and cute people.

…Well, he could become that type.

Cheng Mofei bared his teeth at the mirror, revealing a single sharp canine on the right side.

Tiger teeth made someone look cuter, right? That guy had two tiger teeth—he only had one. Damn it.

Cheng Mofei pushed open the bathroom door, the flush on his face having faded significantly.

Sun Xinghe glanced at him and said, “Brother Fei, you forgot your book. I brought it back for you.”

Cheng Mofei smiled and nodded. “Thank you, Xinghe.”

Sun Xinghe: “???”

What the hell? Did he get possessed?

Suddenly remembering something, Cheng Mofei added, “I spoke with my uncle, we're driving over to the hot springs this Saturday night. We can stay at the resort overnight and come back Sunday.”

Sun Xinghe's confusion vanished in an instant. “Brother Fei, you’re the best!”

Ignoring him, Cheng Mofei returned to his seat, reopened his computer, logged into his social media, and sent a message to the head of the Small Animal Rescue Association:

[Do you still need volunteers for the promotional event we talked about? I can participate.]

Coordinator: 【Yes, yes, yes! We desperately need more handsome guys and pretty girls!】

Coordinator: 【[Location Pin]】

Coordinator: 【Come here. We’ve got outfits ready, you can pick them up this afternoon. The event runs every evening—dress warmly!】

Cheng Mofei: 【OK.】

The weather was getting colder, and stray cats and dogs were about to face another harsh winter.

The Small Animal Rescue Association had been organizing a series of public welfare events, promoting pet adoption at a nearby mall.

The coordinator had previously asked him if he’d be willing to wear cute animal ears, paw gloves, and other accessories to help with the promotion. They needed good-looking students to attract attention, and participants could even earn academic credits.

His department didn’t lack credit opportunities, and between preparing for the basketball tournament, the sports meet, and dealing with Shen Yu’s situation, he had turned them down.

But now that the basketball tournament and sports meet were over, he could make time for it.

Shen Yu liked cute things, didn’t he?

Cheng Mofei couldn’t change his height or facial features, so he could only rely on external help—like clothing.

When Shen Yu returned with steaming-hot oden, Cheng Mofei was sitting in front of the little hamster’s cage. He had just finished cleaning it, replaced the bedding, refilled the water, and was now feeding it.

Cheng Mofei had always been a reliable person, whenever he took on a task, he did it well.

The little hamster was plump and round, curled up in Cheng Mofei’s palm, nibbling on its snack. Cheng Mofei lowered his gaze, watching it intently.

So cute.

Hearing Shen Yu return, Cheng Mofei immediately placed the hamster back into its cage.

“Here.” Shen Yu handed over the oden.

“Thanks.” Cheng Mofei suddenly felt nervous again. He quickly stuffed a fish ball into his mouth, using the act of chewing to mask his expression.

Shen Yu pulled Cheng Mofei’s phone out of his pocket, placed it on his desk, then casually picked up his own phone from Cheng Mofei’s desk.

Right in front of him, he started flipping through it—seemingly absentminded but actually very deliberate.

Out of the corner of his eye, Shen Yu noticed Cheng Mofei acting a little off.

But he couldn’t quite figure out what Cheng Mofei had seen on his phone.

It could have been exactly what Shen Yu had wanted him to see, or it could have been something else entirely.

He’d have to keep observing him over the next few days to find out.

“Oh, right,” Cheng Mofei suddenly said. “I joined the Small Animal Rescue Association’s event. I need to go pick up the costume later… Do you want to come with me?”

After all, he was wearing it for Shen Yu to see. If Shen Yu didn’t come along, then what was the point?

He knew that Shen Yu had no classes this afternoon or evening.

“Sure.” Shen Yu agreed without hesitation.

After finishing their oden, the two of them headed out together.

During this time, Xiao Xiong, tempted by the delicious smell of oden, wanted to ask Cheng Mofei for a skewer.

But Cheng Mofei ruthlessly refused.

This guy had finally managed to stick to his diet for a few days—no snacks, just healthy meals. He couldn’t let that effort go to waste because of him.

Besides, the whole reason he had asked Shen Yu to buy the oden was just an excuse.

He had even specifically told him to buy extra in case it wasn’t enough—mostly because he felt guilty. Sharing with others was not part of the plan.

When they arrived at the costume pickup area, Cheng Mofei explained his purpose and registered his information.

With the turnover of juniors and seniors, many of the logistics and record-keeping duties had been handed over to first-year students who had just joined.

Among them were a few girls who recognized Cheng Mofei and kept calling him senior enthusiastically.

Cheng Mofei had no choice but to maintain an awkward yet polite smile.

Shen Yu, meanwhile, watched the entire scene unfold with an amused expression.

If this had been early in his past life, he would’ve undoubtedly felt a pang of jealousy.

Even though he knew Cheng Mofei wasn’t responding to any of these people’s advances, he still wouldn’t have felt secure. He would have stirred up trouble, hoping to find reassurance through Cheng Mofei’s reactions.

But after everything he’d been through, Shen Yu had changed quite a bit.

He had come to understand that feeling jealous was normal, and it was okay to let the other person know, but there was no need to dwell on it or keep creating unnecessary conflicts between them.

At least now, he wasn’t going to feel jealous over a few young girls like this.

People were naturally inclined to admire those who were more powerful or accomplished and wanting to get closer. And it was even more natural when it came to attracting the opposite sex.

Cheng Mofei kept glancing over at him with a look that seemed to beg for help. Finally, he got the costume and quickly rushed over to Shen Yu's side, almost as if trying to escape.

Shen Yu couldn’t help himself and decided to tease him a little. He deliberately imitated the voice of the group of girls, calling out, “Did you get it? Senior.”

Cheng Mofei’s mind went blank with a bang, and his entire face turned bright red.

He suddenly remembered the video from earlier that afternoon, where the one below was always calling the one on top… senior.
