On the way back, Tang Wei finally let out a sigh, glancing ahead at the mule cart that was nearly out of sight, and broke the silence.

To be honest, according to that old woman’s nature, even if they said that his mother is gravely ill, she probably wouldn’t care.

Although Wei Dong and Tang Xu volunteered to come with them, they were so ruthless, they even pressed his eldest sister to leave. and almost threatening to beat his former brother-in-law to death if he doesn't divorce.

"Such a loss."

Tang Wei was startled by his words and turned to ask, "What loss?"

"Our sister has been at their house for so many years, how could she have left without saving up anything? Now that she left, they’ll definitely search through everything and take it all." Tang Zu finished speaking with a pout, "I can’t believe how bad the Sun family is!"

Tang Wei sighed as well, he wanted to ask the same question.

At the Tang family’s old home, Luo Pingping was tossing and turning on the kang, unable to settle down.

After Tang Dahu came back from his walk and saw she couldn’t calm down, he sat down at the edge of the kang, took off his shoes, and said to her, "If you can’t sleep, get up for a while. Don’t just lie there. It makes me tired just looking at you."

Luo Pingping quickly sat up from the bed, folded the pile of blankets beside her, and leaned against the side. "I don’t know when Da Niu and the others will be back. It’s already past mealtime. Could it be that they’re having lunch over there before coming back?"

Tang Dahu helplessly said, "Why are you worrying? What, are they supposed to come back today? They can’t just stop her from leaving."

In their minds, they thought that although the in-laws were hard to get along with, when it came to matters of filial piety, no matter how unwilling they were, they would still let people come back, so they weren't particularly worried.

When Tang Dahu saw his eldest daughter jumping down from the mule cart, he wasn't surprised that she came back alone with a child. He just thought that his son-in-law must have been busy with spring plowing and couldn’t come along.

"Father!" As soon as Tang Mei saw her father, she couldn’t hold back the frustration any longer. She rushed into Tang Dahu’s arms, crying uncontrollably.

Tang Dahu clearly didn’t expect this and quickly started gently patting his daughter’s shoulder, trying to comfort her. "Didn’t your brother tell you? Your mother is fine. She’s not sick. She just wanted you to come back and stay for a few days to relax."

After speaking, Tang Dahu realized something was off.

He saw that when Tang Mei got off the cart from Wei Dong's mule cart, their own cow cart hadn’t come back yet.

Tang Xu was holding Tang Mei’s little child in his arms, and Sun Yang was also being helped down from the mule cart by Wei Dong and set on the ground. They didn’t approach immediately, instead waiting for Tang Mei to finish crying and calm down before speaking.

Looking down at the little one in his arms, who was pouting and about to cry, Tang Xu noticed the chubby little face, which appeared quite plump.

However, in his arms, the child didn’t feel too heavy. He adjusted his hold slightly, frowned, and then looked at the small child standing beside Wei Dong, asking, "What does your little brother usually eat?"

"Goudan eats rice porridge." Sun Yang replied, looking at his younger brother. The eleven-month-old baby was soft and limp in Tang Xu’s arms, still unable to walk or talk.

Maybe because he wasn’t eating enough, the child’s cries were weak and delicate.

"Goudan?" Tang Xu looked at the little one in his arms and smiled, and couldn’t help but chuckle. "Why’d you give him such a name? It’s so ordinary."

The older generation believed that giving a child a humble name would help them grow stronger. Typically, children under three years old had names that weren’t very nice to hear.

For example, "Goudan" was a common nickname, and if you called out "Goudan" from the hilltop, several responses would probably follow.

Sun Yang pursed his lips and didn’t reply. His own nickname was Ah Xe.

At six years old, he could already distinguish between good and bad names. Being called Ah Xe was a bit embarrassing.

"Xu Ge’er?" Tang Dahu helped adjust his daughter’s posture, looking at Tang Xu with a confused expression, "What’s going on?"

Tang Xu grinned at Tang Dahu, lifting the child in his arms to show him, "Uncle, I’ve brought my cousin back."

Tang Dahu twitched his lips, instinctively sensing that things might be serious.

When they reached the house and saw the elderly couple, Tang Mei cried out loud, holding her head in sorrow.

Luo Pingping, hearing the cries from the yard, couldn’t hold back and quickly got out of bed, putting on her shoes to come outside.

"What’s going on? I was pretending to be sick, stop crying, Da Niu!"

Tang Mei cried for a long time, first hugging her grandma, then her mother. In that moment, it felt like she had cried out all the tears she would ever have in her lifetime.

Once everyone had calmed down and sat inside, Tang Xu finally spoke, briefly explaining the situation.

"Grandpa, Grandma, Uncle, and Auntie, I really had no choice. That family went too far. They intentionally dragged my cousin’s reputation down and didn’t want her to have a good life," Tang Xu said, not regretting his impulsive decision. After all, he couldn’t stand it anymore.

Wu Guizhi’s eyes turned red as she listened, filled with anger.

She clenched her fists and angrily punched Tang Dahu’s arm, scolding, "How could you be parents like that? Didn’t you see anything when you went there? If it weren’t for Xu Ge’er being clever, Da Niu would have been harmed by the Sun family!"

"It’s not necessarily true," Tang Dahu muttered quietly.

After all, the Sun family hadn’t admitted anything, and Wei Dong had only heard rumors from others.

Tang Xu said, "Uncle, there’s no smoke without fire. If the Sun family didn’t have that intention, why would anyone come up with such rumors? Besides, when we asked Sun Daming later, he didn’t deny it."

Wei Dong nodded slightly, speaking up, "He’s the problem."

Tang Xu didn’t want to stay too long and said, "Anyway, it’s already over, and there’s nothing bad about it. Our family won’t be bullied. As for his side of things, I’ll let my cousin explain to you. She’s the one directly involved, so she knows better than I do."

Tang Mei tugged at the corner of her mouth, offering a bitter smile.

Ever since she became pregnant with her child, her life had undergone a complete upheaval.

This year, she had truly seen enough of that family’s true nature.

"Let this little one come with us, and stay with us for a few days," Tang Xu stood up and walked over to Sun Yang, resting a hand on his shoulder. "You guys are probably going to make a scene over there, don’t let the child get caught up in it."

Sun Yang nervously glanced at Tang Xu, then looked at his mother.

Tang Mei wasn’t entirely convinced, but before she could speak up to refuse, the old lady spoke first, "Yes, Xu Ge’er, you take him back for now. Once we’re done with things here, we’ll pick him up."

If the other one hadn’t been so small and still too reliant on his mother, the old lady would have wanted Tang Xu to take both children. She was planning to take the whole family to cause trouble with the Sun family tomorrow. If they dared to bully her grandchild like this, they wouldn’t get off easily.

"Go back and tell your father to come over," the old lady said with a stern face, not even bothering to give Tang Xu a smile.

Tang Xu nodded and, holding Sun Yang’s hand, began to walk out. "Don’t worry, Grandma, I'll let my father."

Not only was he planning to call his father over, but tomorrow, his own husband was also going to accompany them to the town to confront the Sun family!

Tang Xu admitted that he was just looking forward to the drama. He’d feel unsatisfied if that family wasn’t taught a lesson.
