Working Records in a Weird World - 49

| WRIAWW | Surprise! Identity Exposed | 49

Zong Le had no idea he was about to be exposed in front of a crowd.

He was currently leading the head of the Medical Department and his assistant, diligently moving through different departments, helping to fulfill each department’s task.

Ever since word got out that the Medical Department’s inspections came with free signatures, every department they visited was practically rolling out the red carpet.

Survivors would hang lanterns and shout, "Three VIPs, please come in!" while keeping their distance, ensuring no disturbance or interference. They’d only swarm in after the team left the office and entered the elevator.

Several times, Zong Le overheard excited cheers from the hallway through the closing elevator doors.

"Holy crap! They really gave us signatures!!!"

"This is the easiest question-level task I’ve ever done. I’m crying, who can understand?!"

"I got it, I got it! Let’s all say it together: Thank you, Medical Department!"

"Thank you, Medical Department!!!"

If Zong Le hadn’t been intentionally doing good deeds, he would have been worried that these comments would reach the ears of the NPCs, who might then revoke the signatures.

"Not bad. You’re getting faster and leaving no room for me to criticize."

In the elevator, Zong Le didn’t forget to praise the department head.

The latter had gone from being a passive observer to actively participating. Now, he could confidently clear his throat, enter the director’s office, and lie with a straight face about the dean’s latest arrangements, claiming they needed a signature and that the director had to accompany them to the elevator for ten minutes before returning.

"It’s all thanks to your guidance, all thanks to you."

The department head nodded obsequiously. "Where are we going next?"

"Let me check."

Zong Le pulled out his phone and browsed, discovering that the survivors in the proctology department were rallying on the forum.

[Please, Medical Department, come to proctology!]

[I’d rather guard the morgue overnight than do another digital rectal exam on a weird!]

[You have no idea what kind of torture it is to do a digital rectal exam on a weird. First, there’s the smell when they drop their pants. This morning, a guy had to do a rectal exam on an old weird who was covered in cauliflower-like growths down there. The weird even farted, knocking the guy out cold. He still hasn’t recovered.]

Curious, Zong Le asked the department head, "What’s a digital rectal exam in proctology?"

"It’s a diagnostic procedure. You wear gloves and use your fingers to examine the patient’s anus and rectum and checking for any abnormalities or risks of disease in the rectal area."

Zong Le: "..."

He imagined the scene of the survivors undergoing these examinations on weirds, and a sense of sympathy naturally arose within him.

"Alright, let's head to the proctology department next."

It did sound like a unbearable kind of pain for humans, and if he could help, he would do his best.

With this mindset, he stepped out of the elevator with the head of the medical department in tow. However, this time, the survivors in the proctology department, tormented by examinations, had forgotten to keep their distance.

Instead, they stood in the hallway and behind the glass of the pharmacy, gazing at them with eager eyes, seemingly wanting to cheer but holding back. It was clear they had suffered greatly.

After closing the office door, Zong Le stood at the entrance, watching as the head of the medical department skillfully employed both threats and incentives.

But this time, as the director of the proctology department signed the document, his expression gradually turned serious.

The ever-observant department head immediately became alert. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing, just something unexpected."

Zong Le suddenly sensed many people appearing in the hallway, some of whom had familiar auras.

He then remembered that after completing their tasks, members of other departments had entered a free state and were no longer required to stay in their departments. They could go wherever they pleased. Sure enough, upon checking the forum, there were already posts discussing the situation.

[Don't get too excited just yet. Think about the nature of the final dungeon NPC. How could it be so simple for us to pass?]

[Exactly! There must be a trick here. We in the obstetrics department have put in so much effort to complete our tasks, and you guys just need to pick up a signature to pass? We're all seasoned survivors in this infinite space. When has anything good ever come so easily?]

[You're all happy now that you've got your benefits, but have you thought about the future? What if there's something wrong with that signature? When we face the final boss in the dean's office, it might come back to bite us. Don't just think about the easy way out now and regret it later.]

Conspiracy theories never lacked a market, especially in such a dangerous place in the infinite space.

With just a few words, the originally joyful atmosphere on the forum was turned upside down, and anxiety began to spread.

[But don't worry too much. Several departments have already finished, and the S-level bosses are starting to investigate.]

[I just heard that the 1st is personally leading a team to the medical department to see what's going on.]

[That's great!]

After reading these, he finally understood where the unease was coming from.

But seriously, why is it so risky to do a good deed anonymously these days? Zong Le couldn't figure it out.

Meanwhile, under the leadership of several S-level survivors, the group had surrounded the director's lounge room, leaving no corner unchecked.

Such a grand display was unnecessary, as the lounge room only had one door and one window, which opened into the hallway. Even if someone were inside, they wouldn't be able to escape.

Shu Xingwen closed his eyes and focused for a moment, then confidently stated, "There's no weird inside."

Distinguishing between weirds and NPCs was his specialty, and he rarely made mistakes.

Of course, with so many people here, even if there were a weird inside, they wouldn't be afraid.

The survivors all focused intently, determined to uncover the reason behind the medical department's strange behavior.

A moment later, the door to the lounge room opened.

"If that's the case, I'll have to rely on your support in front of the dean in the future..."

"That's only natural."

The director and the department head emerged together from the lounge room.

Upon seeing the two rows of people standing outside, the head of the medical department paused for a moment.

Fortunately, he had been informed in advance and was prepared. Only the director of the proctology department was still out of the loop, sternly scolding, "What are you all doing standing here? You better know your place, or I'll put you solitary confinement!"

Hearing this, the survivors from the proctology department immediately dispersed.

Only the survivors from other departments remained standing there, showing no intention of leaving.

Xue Heguang stood with the others in front of the elevator, looking around.

When he saw the person following behind the head of the medical department and his assistant, dressed in a sterilized suit, wearing a mask, and completely covered up, a trace of suspicion flashed in his eyes.

In fact, Xue Heguang had already harbored doubts back in the morgue.

After all, he had sent those people to get Director Yang's signature, and upon their return, they all angrily recounted Director Yang's misdeeds. Just as they were still trying to figure out a solution, the system announced the completion of the task.

Later, upon detailed questioning, they all consistently said that when they left the office, Director Yang still had a disdainful attitude, making it absolutely impossible for him to have a change of heart and provide a signature.

Moreover, even if Director Yang had been willing to sign, there would have needed to be someone from the morgue to receive it. Xue Heguang hadn't found any signature on the lounge room desk, so it was clear that the signature must have been taken by someone.

Coincidentally, after careful consideration, one of the team members suddenly remembered something.

"There were a few things that didn’t seem quite right. On our way back, we happened to run into that black-haired C-level guy, the one who shamelessly claimed his surname was Zong."

The fully armed figure before him bore an uncanny resemblance to the one named Zong Le, down to the goggles on his head, which looked suspiciously like those issued by the Taikang Yongle Hospital's morgue.

Although Xue Heguang remained half-skeptical of the other party's capability, he couldn't help but wonder if it was all just a coincidence.

The head of the medical department and his assistant drew most of the attention, with everyone trying to spot something amiss on them.

Zong Le, trailing behind, went largely unnoticed, dismissed as just a follower.

However, among the survivors, there was no shortage of sharp-eyed individuals.

In the crowd, a pair of icy blue eyes closely followed the figure lagging behind, narrowing slightly after a moment.

As the department head and the director entered the elevator, one of Joshua's subordinates stepped forward, coincidentally blocking the last person.

Under the gaze of everyone, the silver-haired patriarch stepped forward and spoke slowly.

"Why... are your pupils black and white?"

His words sent a shockwave through the room.

The biggest difference between NPCs and survivors in the dungeon was the color of their pupils. In the ultimate dungeon, NPCs had black eyes, while survivors had distinct black and white pupils. Joshua's statement undoubtedly revealed a startling truth.

The person who had been following the head of the medical department, inspecting countless wards, was not an NPC but a survivor!

Immediately, a survivor exclaimed, "I remember now! He wasn't in the team during the morning inspection."

"That's right! I remember too! He only appeared in the afternoon when the medical department was distributing signatures!"

"How could he be a survivor? No, how could a survivor pull off something so big without a word?!"

Under the scrutiny of so many eyes, the mysterious figure finally gave up the struggle.

He sighed, reached up, and removed the goggles and mask, revealing a handsome face beneath.

Upon seeing his features, a commotion broke out among the S-level team.

Yu Anlian and Ka Guya exchanged glances, both seeing shock in each other's eyes.

Qin Ye and Shu Xingwen had crossed paths with Zong Le before, but given their status, they don't usually remember low-level survivors. They only felt that the black-haired young man looked somewhat familiar, as if they had glimpsed him during a previous mission.

Shu Xingwen was puzzled by Liu Jianhua's excitement, "Have you met him?"

"Yes, boss!" Liu Jianhua exclaimed, "He's the talented newcomer I mentioned to you before! Our guild has been searching for him for so long, and who would have thought he'd be here!"

Everyone present was at least an A-level survivor, and their keen senses were undeniable.

Liu Jianhua's words undoubtedly caused a stir.

"What? The talented newcomer? The one with black hair?"

"The mysterious one whose real name hasn't been exposed on the forums yet, and whose information was sold at a high price by the merchant guild a few days ago?"

Amid the uproar, only Joshua's expression grew colder.

Looking at Zong Le, who was now surrounded by everyone, he realized he had made a grave mistake.
