It’s Exciting to Snatch the Supporting Male Lead and Run Away [Quick Wear] - 134

IETSTSMLARA | The Post-Apocalyptic Black Lotus | 134

The two of them played off each other, leaving Jiang Ruan isolated and helpless. He clenched his fists, tears welling up in his eyes but not falling.

"I know, Brother Lin, that you have some misunderstanding about me. I'm really sorry. I won't cause you any more trouble in the future, I truly apologize."

He turned around and left, wiping his eyes with his fingers, the sound of his sobbing attracting the attention of many outside.

He hurried away, looking like he had suffered a great injustice.

Those who understood the situation exchanged glances and whispered among themselves.

"He deserves it... Trying to get close to Brother Lin without knowing his own worth."

"The apocalypse isn't over yet, and he's already scheming so much. He isn't afraid of getting himself killed."

Those who didn't understand, just assumed Ming Tang was Lin Su's lover, and some clicked their tongues in disapproval.

"He looks pitiful. I heard he came over to deliver some tea leaves. Those are so precious, and yet he was willing to give them away."

"Who knows, all these twists and turns are hard to understand. It's none of our business anyway, we're just here to watch."

Meanwhile, in the office, Ming Tang sat up straight, watching Jiang Ruan leave.

He then turned his head, no longer the weak and helpless person from earlier, and asked Lin Su sharply, "Who was that?!"

After dealing with that issue, it was clear Ming Tang was holding Lin Su accountable.

"He's Zhu Lang’s lover, the newly arrived Level 5 ability user," Lin Su replied earnestly. "He claims they've been friends since childhood."

"Friend? Looks like he's got his eye on you." Ming Tang puffed his cheeks, looking at Lin Su, and said, "He's trying to play the 'green tea' game with me. So, what's your stance?"

Lin Su responded, "You saw my stance just now."

"Answer me directly," Ming Tang said, holding Lin Su's face and making him face him squarely.

Lin Su raised a hand, looked him in the eyes, and said, "I don't like him at all. If he weren't Zhu Lang's partner, I wouldn't even spare him a glance."

This was the plain truth. People like Jiang Ruan were more interested in power and status. If someone else were in Lin Su's position, Jiang Ruan would be just as eager to ingratiate himself with them. It wasn't really about Lin Su as a person.

However, the one in Lin Su's arms was different. When Ming Tang had already reached Level 6 as an ability user, he still appeared to be at Level 4.

In some ways, he could be seen as living off Lin Su, but all this little guy wanted was Lin Su himself.

The difference between the two was clear.

Deception might work for a while, but not forever. The longer it goes on, the bigger the explosion when the truth comes out. Lin Su knew he had to find a time to let Ming Tang know.

Ming Tang was somewhat satisfied with this answer, but still a bit puzzled. "Who is Zhu Lang? A Level 5 ability user isn't that rare. Does he have some special ability?"

"He's an honest guy, does his job well. If we let them be, sooner or later, Zhu Lang will get into trouble because of him," Lin Su said. "Just think of it as me being merciful."

"An honest person, huh?" Ming Tang mused, then suddenly flashed a slightly mischievous smile. "In that case, let's help him out a bit. We're in this together, as a couple, let's punish evil and serve justice."

"Whatever you say, I'll play along," Lin Su replied with a smile. He could tell that this little guy was getting bored from being cooped up and wanted to have some fun.

After leaving Lin Su's office in tears, Jiang Ruan wiped away his tears in front of Zhu Lang, remaining silent.

This made Zhu Lang increasingly anxious, prompting him to ask repeatedly, "What's wrong? Who bullied you?"

"Even if someone bullied me, what could you do about it?" Jiang Ruan said, sniffling as he sat there.

"You're too concerned with saving face and being the good guy. How can you possibly look after me?"

"I didn't mean that, not at all. I just thought that since we've finally found a stable base, it's important to maintain good relations with everyone. But my main concern is making sure you're comfortable here. If someone bullies you, I can't stand that. No man should let his wife be bullied," Zhu Lang said, gripping his hand. "Tell me who bullied you, and I'll make sure they pay for it."

"Pay for it? Do you think you can?" Jiang Ruan seethed as he thought about Ming Tang's smug face, wanting nothing more than to scratch it.

"That person is Brother Lin's lover. What can you do? I just wanted to share some of the tea made from the chrysanthemum you worked so hard to obtain. But that Ming Tang took one look at me and called me a janitor. How are you going to stand up for me? Do you even have the guts or ability?"

Tears of frustration welled up in his eyes, and Zhu Lang put his hands on Jiang Ruan's shoulders, saying, "I do. No matter who it is, if they bully you, I'll make sure to get back at them. I'll go right now."

Zhu Lang angrily stood up, and for a moment, Jiang Ruan was caught off guard. He had only wanted Zhu Lang to see how spoiled and unreasonable Ming Tang was compared to him, not to actually cause trouble.

He never intended for Zhu Lang to confront anyone right now; that would make it obvious he had complained.

"Don't go. You just said that we've finally found a stable base," Jiang Ruan quickly got up and clung to Zhu Lang's arm. "We can't afford to offend people here. I can handle a little injustice, it's okay. I'm sorry, I was being unreasonable just now. I can't do much usually, and I just end up causing you trouble."

"No, you didn't cause any trouble." Zhu Lang's chest heaved with emotion. "I won't act rashly. I'll just go and ask for an explanation, okay? If he's done something wrong, he owes you an apology. We should stick to what's fair, no matter where we are."

"Please don't go. If you do, I'll start crying right here," Jiang Ruan said, crouching down and holding onto him. "I'm begging you, don't cause trouble for others because of me."

His pleading only made Zhu Lang feel even more heartbroken. He lifted Jiang Ruan up from the ground, saying, "Alright, I won't go. Just don't cry anymore, it really tears me up inside."

Although they were trying to keep their conversation private, the place they were in wasn't entirely soundproof, so some of what was said could be overheard by others.

Those who understood the situation were well aware of the context, while those who didn't might find it somewhat pitiful.

Rumors spread rapidly. Within two hours of Jiang Ruan leaving Lin Su's office, the entire central area was buzzing with gossip about Brother Lin's supposed lover bullying a newcomer.

The newcomers whispered among themselves, but the long-time residents were left feeling anxious, thinking that Jiang Ruan was playing with fire.

When the rumors reached Ming Tang, he had just woken up from a nap in Lin Su's arms.

Stretching lazily like a cat that had just woken up, his beautiful eyes narrowed to slits. "I knew this would happen. Looks like if we don't teach him a lesson, he'll start thinking the entire Pojun Base belongs to him."

“Mm, have fun,” Lin Su gently patted Ming Tang's cheek.

Ming Tang gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and declared, “From now on, I’m the purest, most innocent, and transparent person in the world.”

As he said this, even he felt a bit nauseous from the irony of it.

But Lin Su raised an eyebrow and, with a serious tone, said, “You already are.”

A straight man's attempt at being sweet can be the most lethal.

Ming Tang snuggled closer, wrapping his arms around Lin Su’s neck. “Brother, how are you so good at saying the right things? Tell me, were you trying to make me jealous on purpose before?”

Lin Su glanced at him but didn’t answer directly. “Do you want me to set up some extras for your little act?”

“No need. A good actor can perform perfectly at any time, anywhere,” Ming Tang said, tilting Lin Su’s chin towards himself as he steered the conversation back.

“So, you were jealous, weren’t you? Hmph, I knew you liked me all along. My brother is so cute, even when he’s jealous. I feel like I’ve struck gold.”

System 06 thought to himself, he really is a treasure—a shockingly valuable one.

Seeing how adorable Ming Tang looked being all affectionate, Lin Su pinched his cheek and said, “Mm, you’re a treasure too.”

“No, I’m a little treasure,” Ming Tang whispered into his ear. “Brother, you’re the big treasure.”

With such a little treasure snuggled in his arms, always whispering things that Lin Su could fully grasp the meaning of, even someone as cold as him, could feel like he was on the verge of a volcanic eruption every few days.

After a bit of affection, Lin Su reminded him, “If you don’t handle this today, your impact will be much weaker tomorrow.”

Ming Tang then jumped out of his embrace, stretched his legs, adjusted his expression, and set off with an especially innocent look on his face.

Ming Tang had been in seclusion for a while, so many of the newcomers weren’t familiar with him. They just thought he was extremely attractive.

When they saw him flash a sweet smile, some couldn’t help but feel their hearts race. However, the older members, recognizing this familiar expression, instinctively took a sharp breath.

Seeing Ming Tang’s concerned look, they quickly adjusted their expressions, signaling that they were fully ready to cooperate.

After all, the only thing that could bring this retired figure back into action was the recent rumor that had been circulating in the base.

One thought flashed through the minds of the old-timers: How would Jiang Ruan meet his end?

Would he be scorned to death, burned to death, or driven out of the base to be devoured by zombies?

No matter the outcome, Ming Tang would emerge unscathed because, aside from his acting skills, he also had the advantage of combat power.

When Wang Tai encountered Ming Tang, he froze for a moment and instinctively greeted him, “Hello, Brother Ming.”

“Calling me that feels too formal; just call me Ming Tang,” he said with a smile, then looked at the man standing behind Wang Tai and asked, “And who is this?”

“This is Cheng Song, a newly arrived Level 6 ability user who is now working closely with Brother Lin,” Wang Tai introduced. “Brother Cheng, this is Ming Tang, Brother Lin’s partner.”

Cheng Song looked at the exceptionally beautiful youth before him and couldn’t help but be impressed.

Regardless of personality, the Zombie Emperor had excellent taste in appearances. “Hello, I’m Cheng Song,” he said, nodding in greeting.

With one white lotus in front and now another tricky character appearing, things were about to get interesting.

When Ming Tang heard that Cheng Song was a Level 6 ability user, his pupils slightly contracted. His own man was only a Level 4 ability user, and while Lin Su had judged Zhu Lang to be non-threatening, this new man clearly had a more complex character.

Ming Tang extended his hand with a smile. “Brother Cheng, we’re very glad to have you here.”

Although he was just Lin Su’s nominal lover in name, Ming Tang knew it was important to maintain appearances.

Cheng Song, understanding the importance of keeping up appearances, lightly touched Ming Tang's fingertips and replied with a smile, “Thank you.”

However, as they touched, Ming Tang subtly pinched the tip of Cheng Song’s finger and quickly pulled back. “Brother Cheng, you seem to have quite a cold constitution. Your hands are so cold,” he noted, his tone innocent, yet his words carried a deeper implication.

His hands were unnaturally cold for such a hot climate, and his strength didn’t quite align with what a Level 6 should be.

In the aftermath of the apocalypse, the virus had warped the climate, making the days scorchingly hot and the nights chillingly cold.

While regular humans struggled to endure these extremes, ability users had stronger resilience.

But even so, having such cold hands in broad daylight was unusual.

Cheng Song had almost dismissed Ming Tang as being similar in temperament to Jiang Ruan.

But now, rubbing his fingers together thoughtfully, he realized he might have underestimated him. Anyone who had caught Lin Su’s eye must have something unique about them.

If System 06 had known Cheng Song’s thoughts, he would have quickly refuted them with dozens of examples, arguing that uniqueness wasn’t the main factor—good looks were what truly mattered.

“Maybe it’s because I’ve been around this little popsicle too long,” Cheng Song said, playfully ruffling Wang Tai’s hair. “You know how it is—he’s got ice powers. But thank you for your concern, Brother Ming.”

"You're welcome," Ming Tang replied, though he wasn't too concerned with understanding Cheng Song at the moment. His primary focus was on dealing with the little white lotus first.

Once that was settled, if Cheng Song had any other schemes, Ming Tang figured he could just eliminate him—his devouring ability allowed him to overpower even those at higher levels.

While other Level 7 ability users might not dare to have such a fearless attitude, Ming Tang knew his powers gave him the edge.

"Where are you headed, Brother Ming? Brother Lin should be in the office area," Wang Tai said.

"I made a mistake and I wanted to apologize," Ming Tang replied, his eyes softening with a hint of guilt. "I'll be right back."

"Okay, sure," Wang Tai said, standing even straighter than before, his voice carrying a tone of respect and fear.

After Ming Tang left with that guilty expression, Wang Tai finally let out a small sigh of relief. He knew that Chouchou liked Ming Tang, and while Lin Su could handle everything, Wang Tai sometimes struggled with Ming Tang's unpredictable behavior.

Noticing Wang Tai’s nervous demeanor, Cheng Song draped an arm over his shoulder and asked, "You seem pretty scared of him."

Wang Tai, being an ice ability user, naturally had a lower body temperature and was used to the cold, so he didn’t find Cheng Song’s temperature unusual.

Glancing at Ming Tang’s retreating figure, he whispered, "In this entire base, aside from Brother Lin, the one person you don’t want to cross is Brother Ming. He’s really powerful—stronger than Brother Lin."

Cheng Song nodded, acknowledging the information, and then said, "Let’s go, let’s follow him," as he kept his arm around Wang Tai's shoulder, urging him to move along.

"Where are we going?" Wang Tai asked, somewhat bewildered.

Ming Tang was clearly in a particular mood, and instead of avoiding him, Cheng Song wanted to get closer. Wasn't that just asking for trouble?

"To watch the show and eat some popcorn," Cheng Song replied casually, dragging Wang Tai along.

With such a powerful figure like Ming Tang involved, and someone so good at playing a role like the little white lotus, a great drama was unfolding.

How could they miss out on it?

In another area of the office, Zhu Lang was in the middle of instructing some new ability users on what to watch out for during their next hunting expedition. However, he noticed that at a certain moment, all their gazes suddenly shifted toward the same spot.

These were all newly arrived ability users, and if they weren't properly briefed and their roles carefully assigned, things could go wrong. If only one or two of them had gotten distracted, Zhu Lang might have corrected them, but now it was the whole group.

Curious, Zhu Lang followed their gazes and was momentarily stunned when he saw the young man approaching. It wasn't just because of how good-looking Ming Tang was, but because he noticed a similarity between Ming Tang and Jiang Ruan.

One of the new ability users, seeing Zhu Lang looking as well, whistled toward Ming Tang. "Where did this cutie come from? So pretty!"

Zhu Lang quickly admonished him, "No catcalling is allowed in the base." He knew the rules well, especially in the precarious world they now lived in. Respect and boundaries were critical to maintaining order.

"Brother Zhu, the base doesn't allow catcalling, but pursuing someone and falling in love freely is totally fine," one of them quipped.

Their collective gaze remained on Ming Tang. In a world where traditional norms had shifted due to the apocalypse, the lines between preferences had blurred.

Before seeing someone as stunning as Ming Tang, many of them might have considered themselves strictly straight, but now they realized that attraction could be more than flexible.

The apocalypse had brought about a new normal where unusual relationships were no longer shocking.

Zhu Lang, finding it hard to refute the logic, simply looked at the approaching Ming Tang and said, "Hello, you shouldn't be wandering around the central area without a reason."

"I'm here to see Jiang Ruan," Ming Tang replied with a slight smile.

"Oh, are you a friend of his?" Zhu Lang asked, gesturing towards a nearby lounge. "He's over there."

"Could you call him out for me?" Ming Tang asked politely, taking in the man's honest and straightforward demeanor.

Ming Tang's previous prejudice against men had gradually faded because of Lin Su, and he found this man to be sincere and hardworking.

Zhu Lang's rough hands and work-worn appearance suggested that he was the type to endure hardship without complaint.

In a world without the apocalypse or superpowers, someone like Jiang Ruan probably wouldn't have looked twice at a man like Zhu Lang.

Now, their relationship seemed more out of necessity than choice, and Ming Tang saw how Zhu Lang might just be a stepping stone for Jiang Ruan if a better opportunity arose.

"Sure," Zhu Lang responded, pleased that Jiang Ruan was making friends. He didn't want Jiang Ruan to stay cooped up all the time. "Wait here for a moment."

As Zhu Lang turned to call Jiang Ruan, the other ability users gathered around Ming Tang. "Hey, cutie, do you have a boyfriend?" one asked.

"Can I try to pursue you?" another chimed in.

"Even though my ability level might not be high right now, once I level up, my combat power will be off the charts," one of the ability users said confidently.

Ming Tang smiled politely. "You all are amazing."

In the past, he could have casually called them "brothers" and praised them more enthusiastically, but now, with his current situation, such familiarity might not be well received by his partner at home.

Romantic entanglements might affect his performance, but with his man around, he could get by with minimal acting skills.

When Wang Tai followed Cheng Song and arrived, he was met with a scene that nearly made his heart stop. He rushed forward and said, "This is Brother Lin’s lover. Everyone, step back!"

The ability users, who had been enthusiastically engaging with Ming Tang, immediately started to retreat.

On hearing Wang Tai's words, they almost stumbled over themselves, their expressions a mix of confusion and regret as they looked at the seemingly innocent Ming Tang with a sense of shock and realization.

"Are you Brother Ming?" one of the ability users asked hesitantly.

"Ah, I’m sorry for the misunderstanding earlier," another said, visibly sweating. "We didn't realize your identity."

They had assumed that someone as strikingly beautiful as Ming Tang wouldn't be unattached, but they hadn't expected him to be Lin Su's lover.

"Sorry for the offense. Hello, Brother Ming," they all said, trying to make amends.

The group of ability users stepped back in unison, and Ming Tang smiled playfully. "I haven't had the chance to introduce myself yet. You guys just misunderstood. Don’t worry, Brother Lin won’t mind."

His voice was clear and his tone non-accusatory. With such a strikingly beautiful and gentle demeanor, Ming Tang seemed to embody kindness and understanding. It made Brother Lin seem quite fortunate to have him.

The onlookers exchanged glances, their perceptions shifting.

"How could someone like this be a bully?"

"Maybe it was all a misunderstanding?"

"With someone so gentle, it’s hard to believe he’d be harsh. Brother Lin’s lover wouldn’t bully a newcomer."

Wang Tai quietly stepped aside, marveling at how Brother Lin managed to have Ming Tang cling to him like a piece of glue every day. It was a testament to how impressive Brother Lin must be.

When Jiang Ruan was summoned by Zhu Lang, he was initially puzzled. "A friend?"

"Yes, a very good-looking person," Zhu Lang explained. "I noticed he looks quite a bit like you. When did you make friends with him without telling me?"

Jiang Ruan thought of someone who might match the description of a friend who resembled him, but he was uncertain about Ming Tang’s purpose in coming over.

The rumors had been circulating wildly, and everyone knew it was he who had bullied someone. Could it be that he had come to cause trouble?

If he could make him lose his composure, Brother Lin would surely see his true colors.

"I don't recall," Jiang Ruan said with a smile. Regardless of what had happened, he intended to present himself in the most gentle and understanding manner possible.

This way, his true character would shine through.

As they stepped outside, they saw Ming Tang standing in front, smiling as if glowing.

"It’s you. What are you doing here?" Jiang Ruan felt a twinge of jealousy. No matter how much he tried to deny it, he couldn’t ignore that Ming Tang’s face was indeed more striking than his own.

Despite his inner turmoil, Jiang Ruan maintained a pitiable expression, his eyes reddening as he spoke. "Isn't it enough that you’ve already caused trouble at noon?"

Zhu Lang, observing Jiang Ruan’s reaction, lowered his head and asked, "What’s wrong?"

"You must be Brother Zhu," Ming Tang looked up with a apologetic smile. "I'm Ming Tang."

Upon hearing his name, Zhu Lang quickly moved Jiang Ruan behind him, guarding him. "Are you here to pick a fight with him?"

Although Jiang Ruan wasn’t fond of Zhu Lang, being shielded behind him felt somewhat gratifying.

Men could be swayed with a few tears and pitiful words; with a bit more kindness, they could even be compelled to go to great lengths for you.

Ming Tang’s eyes widened in surprise, and he quickly waved his hands. "No, I’m not here to cause trouble. I heard the rumors and realized that my careless words might have caused Jiang Ruan significant distress. I’m truly sorry. I’m quite jealous by nature, so Brother Lin usually doesn’t let outsiders into his office. I hadn’t been around recently, and when he mentioned needing a temporary cleaner, I misunderstood. I really am very sorry."

Ming Tang didn’t cry; his face was simply filled with remorse, as if the mistake was weighing heavily on him.

Such a beautiful person, so genuinely apologetic over a misunderstanding, made it hard for anyone to stay angry.

Wang Tai, standing to the side, wiped his face blankly, struggling to find words to express his current emotions.

On the other hand, Cheng Song was highly entertained, almost ready to applaud: "The level is really high."

If Ming Tang was here to pick a fight, he had already lost on the surface, given the current buzz of rumors.

However, by directly clarifying the misunderstanding, even if it wasn't entirely sincere, the apology made it appear petty for anyone to hold a grudge.

At least Zhu Lang had lowered his guard, thinking that it was impossible for Brother Lin’s people to truly bully someone: "Since it’s a misunderstanding, it’s good that it’s cleared up, right Jiang Ruan?"

Jiang Ruan hadn’t expected this straightforward approach. His reddened eyes were not from sadness but from anger. The pity he had carefully crafted was now undermined by this apology.

He had to let this matter go, or he would appear petty and narrow-minded.

How dare he!?

Jiang Ruan forced himself to smile through his tears, trying to maintain his composure: "Of course, if it's a misunderstanding, then it’s cleared up. You really didn’t need to come all this way to apologize; it would seem petty on our part."

Ming Tang's expression brightened with apparent relief.

He stepped closer, placing a hand on Jiang Ruan's shoulder: "I'm glad to hear that. Since we've cleared things up, let’s be good friends from now on. I also believe that you will never be interested in the man of your good friend, right?"

Jiang Ruan was about to agree, seeing this as an opportunity to get closer to Ming Tang’s boyfriend, but the last comment almost made him lose his composure.

Ming Tang wasn’t trying to establish a genuine friendship; he was setting a trap.

If Jiang Ruan publicly declared no interest in Lin Su, it would effectively erase any potential threat to Lin Su from Jiang Ruan.

If Jiang Ruan contradicted this, it would only confirm his interest in Lin Su, leading to isolation and further complications.

He had to stay calm. Any sign of panic would mean falling straight into Ming Tang’s trap, from which he might never recover.

Jiang Ruan lowered his gaze slightly, feigning innocence as he looked at Ming Tang: "Why would you think that? I’m already with Brother Zhu."

The subtle praise for Ming Tang’s high-level maneuvering didn’t go unnoticed. Ming Tang’s gaze then shifted toward Zhu Lang, assessing his reaction to the entire situation.

Zhu Lang was a simple and honest person. Just now, he heard Ming Tang seem to be jealous.

He felt that sometimes love was unreasonable. He said, "Don't worry, Jiang Ruan has no feelings for Brother Lin. Jiang Ruan, let's avoid Brother Lin in the future to avoid any misunderstandings and make Brother Ming jealous."

Ming Tang's purpose was not on Jiang Ruan at all. After all, straight men were quite scary creatures

Jiang Ruan was originally very satisfied with his answer, but when he heard Zhu Lang's words, his face almost turned blue.

If he has to avoid people from now on, how will he be able to catch up with them?

"Thank you, Brother Zhu. You can just call me Mingtang from now on." Mingtang said with a smile.

He was handsome to begin with, and his smile was even brighter. Such happiness blocked Jiang Ruan's retreat.

If he tried to gain sympathy by crying at this time, he would be at a disadvantage. He could only force a smile and said nothing more.

“Looks like he won this round,” Cheng Song remarked softly, his gaze focused on the scene.

“Yeah…” Wang Tai agreed, feeling as if he had just endured an exhausting ordeal. The game of power and strategy among humans was far more draining than facing zombies.

Ming Tang had managed to leverage his charm and intelligence to win the battle, demonstrating a different kind of prowess that, while less violent, was no less formidable.

Ming Tang left with a smile, and all previous rumors had vanished. New rumors had emerged about him, and those who had seen him couldn’t help but marvel at Brother Lin's good fortune.

"You haven't seen it, but he's really extraordinarily good-looking. I used to think Jiang Ruan was delicate and rare to see in this apocalypse, but when you compare the two standing together, it's like comparing a peony to a morning glory—though both are flowers, there's still a difference."

"So Brother Lin is indeed lucky."

"He's good-looking, affectionate, and jealous. Why can't I meet someone like that?"

"Do you have Brother Lin's good looks? Do you have Brother Lin's status? Do you have Brother Lin's ability to care for his wife? If not, just shut up."

The atmosphere had completely changed. Once everyone’s impression was established, it wasn’t easy to tarnish Ming Tang’s reputation anymore.

Jiang Ruan managed to keep a smile until he got home. As soon as he closed the door, he let go of Zhu Lang’s hand and said, "What exactly was your intention today?"

Having held back his anger, he could not lash out at that smug face, and not letting himself scream and shout, Jiang Ruan felt like he was about to go mad.

He suddenly exploded with anger. Zhu Lang was somewhat confused: "What’s wrong? Why are you suddenly so angry?"

"You always do this, never understanding what I’m thinking?" Jiang Ruan’s frustration grew as he looked at Zhu Lang, unable to control the outburst of his emotions. "Am I really that unsightly? Why must I always avoid others? He can get everyone’s admiration and do as he pleases. Why do I have to keep enduring and accommodating!!!”

He rarely lost his temper, but Zhu Lang didn’t quite understand the source of his anger.

Listening to Jiang Ruan’s words, he said with a good temper, “It’s not about avoiding anyone. They’re a couple, and Lin Ge’s partner is easily jealous. We just need to make sure he doesn’t misunderstand.”

Zhu Lang truly couldn’t understand what Jiang Ruan was angry about.

Jiang Ruan pushed him and said, “So you’re siding with Ming Tang now? He’s more good-looking than I am, right? I didn’t expect someone like you to be so fickle, falling for anyone you meet. I’ve seen through you—I want to break up!!!”

Yes, that’s right. Even if they broke up, he would still place all the blame on the other person.

This way, even after the breakup, he could continue to make himself available, and as long as they were separated, getting close to Lin Su wouldn’t be a problem.

As long as he could win Lin Su over, what did rumors and gossip matter?

Zhu Lang was at a loss: “I’m not interested in Brother Lin’s partner. Really, Jiang Ruan, Jiang Ruan…”

Jiang Ruan went straight into the room, closed the bedroom door, and shouted out, “Don’t call me. Do you want me to hate you even more?”

Zhu Lang’s voice stopped abruptly. He couldn’t knock on the door or explain himself, only pacing anxiously outside, not understanding where he went wrong.

Ming Tang’s display of affection was already quite blatant. He used to be more reserved, but now, in order to compete with the white lotus, he had resumed his tea art, remaining the unrivaled master of tea art.

“Brother, try these chicken meatballs I made myself. Are they good?” Ming Tang asked, smiling as he held a meatball up to Lin Su’s mouth.

When this was said, everyone around had a moment of pause. Just a few days ago, Jiang Ruan had mentioned something similar, and their Brother Lin had said he was allergic to chicken.

Shouldn’t Ming Tang, as Lin Su’s partner, be aware of Lin Su’s chicken allergy?

With this confusion in mind, Lin Su lowered his head and ate the meatball Ming Tang offered.

After tasting it, he said, “Hmm, it’s delicious.”

“How does it compare to the last time? I want to improve next time,” Ming Tang asked humbly.

Lin Su responded seriously, “It’s already perfect. There’s no room for improvement.”

“You really know how to make people happy,” Ming Tang said with a smile, his eyes squinting with joy.

“Just eat your meal,” Lin Su said, patting his head. “You don’t need to serve me; make sure you eat more to keep yourself healthy.”

Although he said this, Ming Tang still used his chopsticks to split the meatballs in half, and when there was one left over, he placed it directly on Lin Su’s plate. “Brother, eat a bit more.”

Wang Tai, sitting across from them, felt he shouldn’t have come for dinner. He already felt somewhat full after eating just a little, unlike Cheng Song next to him, who was propped up on his elbow, staring intently at the scene with envy.

“Thank you,” Lin Su said, looking down but noticing a new shadow nearby.

A voice from above them said, “Brother Ming, although I said I would avoid interfering, Brother Lin is indeed allergic to chicken. As his partner, you should be aware of this.”

Hearing this, Lin Su realized that the little guy’s tactic was working smoothly. With a subtle tug of his hand under the table, Lin Su looked up at Jiang Ruan and said, “You don’t need to meddle in this matter.”

He seemed to have indirectly admitted that he was indeed allergic to chicken. Ming Tang, surprised, asked, “Brother, you’re allergic to chicken? Why didn’t you tell me?”

“No, he’s lying to you,” Lin Su said, turning to Ming Tang. “I’m not allergic.”

“Brother Lin, I know you two are very much in love, but you can’t let this affect your health. If the allergy is severe, it could lead to serious problems,” Jiang Ruan said anxiously. “Brother Ming, as a partner, sometimes you really shouldn’t be so headstrong.”

Ming Tang, holding Lin Su’s shoulder, said, “Why didn’t you tell me? We’ve eaten it so many times. Could there be any problems?”

“I’ll call a doctor,” Jiang Ruan offered.

Yes, he was indeed the one who stayed calm in a crisis. What was there to be so indulgent about with this willful person?

Compared to Ming Tang’s frantic worry, Jiang Ruan appeared much calmer and more caring, but the onlookers found it strange. Zhu Lang felt a vague and unnameable discomfort.

Ultimately, Lin Su was taken for an examination. Only Ming Tang was allowed to accompany him into the enclosed examination room.

Inside, the person who was supposed to be examined sat in a chair, holding a distressed but now mischievous-looking darling in his lap.

The doctor busied himself with his tasks, his back turned to them, deliberately ignoring the situation.

“Using me as bait; I’m keeping a record of this in your account book,” Lin Su said, pinching Ming Tang’s earlobe.

Ming Tang rolled his eyes and replied, “How many things have you recorded against me? Do you really need to make a  book?”

Lin Su raised an eyebrow, and Ming Tang sensed that something might be wrong. “You’re not the type to hold a grudge, are you? How are you planning to settle this? You can’t beat me in a fight, and you might not be able to make me useless either. Maybe one day I’ll even outwit you… Sorry, there are others around. How will we settle this, Brother? Hehe.”

He clearly had a mischievous glint in his eye.

Lin Su said, “From now on, I’ll do everything you ask, and you’re not allowed to get jealous.”

“No, I want to make a record for you too,” Ming Tang said, counting on his fingers. “Even though it’s a game, you’re not allowed to be nice to him, no physical contact, no accepting his food, no… hm, I don’t want to play anymore.”

He complained, feeling a bit sour himself. “It feels like I’m hurting myself more than him. Maybe it’s better to just get rid of him and be done with it. This isn’t fun at all.”

Lin Su naturally went along with his words. “That’s fine too.”

“But we’ve come this far. If he’s gone, Zhu Lang would remember him for the rest of his life. It’s pitiful for that honest guy,” Ming Tang sighed. “It’s so hard. I need a kiss to feel better.”

He didn’t really look upset, but Lin Su still leaned in and kissed the tip of his nose. “I promise, absolutely, I won’t have the slightest bit of feeling for him. If I do, you can deal with me too.”

“I couldn’t bear to,” Ming Tang said, holding his face.

The doctor, who had been quietly observing, felt that he was not a monk and couldn’t maintain perfect detachment. Turning around, he said, “Gentlemen, the examination results are out.”

There hadn’t even been an examination, so how could there be results?

When they came out, they didn’t mention the results.

Lin Su’s expression was unreadable, but Ming Tang felt a bit guilty. “I’ll head back first.”

The two went their separate ways. Those who understood fell silent, watching the drama with Cheng Song.

Those who didn’t understand also kept quiet, perhaps commenting that Brother Lin was a bit overly affectionate with his partner, while Ming Tang clearly wasn’t as attentive as Brother Lin.

That evening, the atmosphere between the two seemed to shift slightly.

Over the next few days, whenever Lin Su returned home needing water, Ming Tang would bring him a steaming cup of hot water. He struggled to hold the cup and spilled it, splashing half of Lin Su’s pants.

Jiang Ruan, however, brought a perfectly warmed cup of water and placed it in front of Lin Su. “Brother Lin, you’ve worked hard. Have some water. I’ve had it ready for a while.”

Lin Su glanced at his pants and picked up the cup. Jiang Ruan’s eyes brightened as he picked up a towel, attempting to wipe Lin Su’s forehead, but Lin Su dodged directly. “Thanks, I can manage.”

Jiang Ruan smiled and handed over the towel. Lin Su casually wiped his face and placed the towel on the table. Jiang Ruan picked it up and gave Ming Tang a triumphant look.

Even though he hadn’t gotten close this time, the fact that Lin Su accepted his water indicated some dissatisfaction with Ming Tang.

Step by step, proving that Ming Tang was less useful, Jiang Ruan was sure he could stand by Lin Su’s side.

Ming Tang’s smile nearly faltered, and his act of leaving only seemed to please Jiang Ruan more.

With the first step taken, Jiang Ruan became even more assertive. Whenever Lin Su needed documents, Ming Tang couldn’t find them, but Jiang Ruan had already taken care of it.

When Lin Su needed to convey a message and Ming Tang was too late, Jiang Ruan had already handled it.

“Oh!” Jiang Ruan accidentally stepped on a piece of paper on the floor, slipping and falling toward Lin Su, who easily avoided him.

Jiang Ruan had to change direction and sit down on the floor, wincing in pain. “It hurts.”

The floor wasn’t particularly slippery, but with the paper added in, it was easy to slip. Of all places, there was only this spot with such a conspicuous piece of paper.

Lin Su looked at him and asked, “How did you fall?”

Jiang Ruan, irritated by his lack of empathy, rubbed his ankle and said, “There was a piece of paper on the floor that I didn’t notice because I was focused on taking care of the task you mentioned. This is a place I have to pass through, but I don’t think the person who left the paper did it on purpose.”

Ming Tang, sitting nearby and folding paper airplanes, looked over. “What do you mean by that?! Are you saying it was intentional?”

“Did you leave the paper?” Lin Su frowned. “No one said you did it on purpose, but while everyone is busy, you’re here playing with paper. I haven’t said anything, and now you’re acting so unreasonably after someone slips?”

Ming Tang’s eyes reddened, and he looked incredulous. “Are you scolding me?!”
